Obviously an AMD-based system had to be
used for the comparison as I used DDR memory and not DDR2.
The entire test system specifications are listed below.
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ (2.4GHz)
DFI LanPartyUT nForce4
Ultra-D
2 x 512MB Corsair XMS
3200XL (DDR400) CAS2-2-2-5
2 x 512MB Corsair Value Select (DDR400)
CAS2.5-3-3-6
Seagate 200GB 7200rpm S-ATA HDD
ASUS Radeon X850XT PE 256MB PCIe
Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2
32-bit
Memory Bandwidth
Tested
As you can see there is very little
difference in memory bandwidth performance when going from
CAS2-2-2-5 to CAS2.5-3-3-6. In most cases the performance
margins were 2% or less, making for virtually no difference
in performance.
Note: For all the following tests a
higher score is better.
Obviously CAS2.5 Value Select memory is well
worth every dollar and it’s of your best interest to track
down the CAS2.5 stuff rather than the CAS3.
