ECS L4S5A Socket 478 Motherboard (SiS645) review

 

Test system

For the testing of this motherboard the following components were used:

  • Intel Pentium 4 "Northwood" 1.8GHz

  • 256MB OCZ Performance PC2400 2.5 Latency

  • OCZ Titan 2 Ultra

  • Videologic SonicFury

  • Sigma Designs Hollywood Plus DVD Decoder

  • 350W Intel approved PSU

  • Windows 98 Second Edition

All the latest drivers/BIOS updates were installed as appropriate. Hardware T&L was on for 3D Mark

 

Benchmarks

With BIOS settings on "sensible" values, and the memory at 133(266)Mhz, Benchmarks were taken in Madonion's 3D Mark 2001, SiSoft's Sandra (RAM & CPU benchmarks), and, although a little old in the tooth, Quake III Arena (patched to 129f). Values were compared with the Soyo Dragon Ultra, using otherwise the exact same components.

3DMark 2001 (default settings)

  • ECS L4S5A: 3319

  • Soyo Dragon Ultra: 3270

3DMark 2001 (1600x1200, 32 bit colour & textures, triple frame buffer)

  • ECS L4S5A: 2376

  • Soyo Dragon Ultra: 2408

Quake III ("normal")

  • ECS L4S5A: 176.8

  • Soyo Dragon Ultra: 164.7

Quake III ("high quality")

  • ECS L4S5A: 166.9

  • Soyo Dragon Ultra:160.4
