With a reputation that greatly preceded
it, I was looking forward to great things with the
Northwood. Unfortunately, being out of money, I couldn't
afford a great HSF, so I'm making do with using the stock
HSF, although this itself is quite chunky. Its a shame that
the fan couldn't be replace without also removing the
securing clips, because I would have put a Delta Black label
on there if this was possible.
The options in the BIOS weren't
particularly great though. Enough for the casual overclocker
really, with CPU/Memory settings of (in MHz) 100/100,
100/133, 105/140, 112/150, 133/133 and 133/166. These could
not be independently changed, nor could (predictably) the
multiplier. Still, I was able to use the 112/150 setting,
with the following result:
Enough to beet the 1.33Ghz Athlon 4! The
1.8Ghz Northwood was running at 2.02Ghz. This whilst just
using the under-powered stock HSF supplied with the Pentium
4, rather impressive.
