I was, on the whole, pleased enough with
the AN11. Although I had several crashes with it, I'd put
them more down to the instability of Windows. I'm not too
sure if the ACR is a useful addition, or just a waste of
space where a PCI slot could have been placed. At least for
a lot of users it won't make much difference, as many will
be reluctant to put a card in right below the AGP slot. For
some this may not even be possible, due to a custom heatsink
on their video card.
The board is currently retailing for
around $100. Quite inexpensive I hear you say, but when
rivals KT266a boards are available for under $70 you start
to wonder what sets the AN11 apart. Well, in terms of
features, not much. But it does offer speed and stability,
and copes quite well under extended pressure. The board is
largely bug-free, the only one I discovered being it doesn't
always shut down properly. Bizarrely though, press any key
and it will power off (after you have set it to shut down of
course). There are far better motherboards available. The
board seems to be a perfectly adequate solution for most
users who want a straight-forward, no-frills board for
speed. The bugbears I have are largely minor, and the once
installed, the board is at least as good as any other based
on the KT266a.
