I have mixed feelings about the ATI
Radeon 9000 Pro. The bundle provided by FIC is impressive
for the price and includes a wide array of accessories and
adaptors. With that being said, the included TV out cords
provided were only 6 foot in length, which makes them
relatively useless unless your computer sits atop your
television set. It was a nice addition, but longer wires
would have gone a long way.
The incompatibility issues which
occurred to me using this card were a little unsettling. The
monitor resolution problem was a big issue, and Quake 3 not
working was odd. I’ve used many cards in the past, and
have not had issues like these occur. The fewer problems I
have with a product, obviously the better. I’m sure I
could have figured out these issues with a little time in
the forums, but this is just time that I would rather spend
playing games.
The comparison was a bit unfair compared
to a Geforce 4 Ti4200, but the difference was staggering.
This could come down to a cost issue, since the Ti4200 is
obviously more expensive. I will say in my honest opinion,
if you can afford the extra $50 for a Ti4200, then don’t
waste your time with the Radeon 9000.
However if you are definitely looking
for the cheapest bang for your buck (less than $100), the
FIC Radeon 9000 Pro might be right up your alley; boosting
more than decent gaming performance, it beats anything
comparatively priced (MX’s and Xabre’s), no doubt it
makes an overall nice package with dual monitor and TV-out
support right out of the box.
