Hedgehog
vs. GlobalWin FKP-32
In
my experience, a CPU plugged into two different motherboards
at the same speed can give two separate temperature
readings, so your reading may differ. I also decided to
compare it against the GlobalWin FKP-32 and the retail Intel
cooling unit. The temperatures were recorded after 10
minutes of a Prime95 torture test using Motherboard Monitor
5, also making sure that the temperatures were not
fluctuating too much.

The
major difference in temperatures was from the increase in
voltage. With 1.65 volts all coolers were able to cool the
CPU to within the 30 degree Celsius range. At 1.8 volts the
temps jumped up quite a bit. At 1021MHz with 1.8 volts, the
Hedgehog was able to keep the CPU 11 degrees cooler than the
stock Intel unit.
Conclusion
There
is no doubt that the Hedgehog is an excellent cooler, but
the price must also be mentioned. At around $50, this
heatsink may be too much for the gain you get compared to
other coolers. If your one to have the price takes back seat
to the performance, the Hedgehog will not disappoint you.
An
all copper heatsink is excellent at surface-to-surface heat
transfer, but the surface to air transfer is not as good as
other metals. This is why a high-speed fan must also be
taken into consideration.
The
heatsink is also fairly big for a socket CPU cooler, so you
may want to make sure that there won't be anything to get in
the way during installation. Another consideration to take
into account is that copper is softer and can dent, bend,
and scratch easy.
