LG Flatron 2320A 23" LCD Media Station review

--

Installation

Opening the unit initially can be a bit intimidating, with so many cables and so fancy looking items. Luckily for us, the LG system came with a simple step-by-step installation procedure, which makes connectivity a snap. The biggest problem you will have is finding a new home for your old CRT, and figuring out what to do with your new desk space.

After completing your connections, you will need to adjust the settings on the monitor. This is a very simple procedure, reminiscing of your old CRT. Buttons on the lower right side of the monitor make this as painless as it can get. The following picture will give you a better idea of where they are located:

As you can see from the picture, this is not a daunting task at all. Installing my unit went very smooth, and I did not encounter and problems. I decided to install my XBOX to the media unit utilizing the high-definition pack from Microsoft. Initially after installation, I did experience a no-sound condition. After further investigation, it became apparent that the problem was my fault, as audio connections were not correct. The supplied directions do not give a real good breakdown on how to hook up devices like an XBOX to the unit, so I relied on a little trial and error.

Impressions

It’s pretty hard not to be impressed by a product with such elegance. The monitor is absolutely gorgeous, and makes a great stylistic statement to any desk. Something I did not realize before was how practical a widescreen display is to a computer. My personal computer spends most of it’s time on the web. With a widescreen display, the favorites bar no longer impedes the view of the web pages you are browsing. It’s almost as Internet Explorer was originally drawn up on a widescreen. After utilizing this monitor, it’s almost a necessity for me to have some type of wide-screen display.

Text looks tight and crisp, and games have never looked better. The brightness controls are excellent, and I was able to adjust to a good level while playing Team Fortress during the daylight. For me, this was almost impossible before with my Philips CRT. The one thing I do notice is that the colors are not as bright. It’s not something the average user would notice, but I do see a difference in the brilliance of color.

The most impressive first impression I had was with the media station. This product transforms your computer into an all-in-one solution. The Xbox games look terrific, and your desktop is just a click away. You can even play games on the Xbox and surf the internet at the same time, thanks to the picture-in-picture option.

The overall quality of this product seems excellent. The finish on the monitor looks nice, and seems very durable. There were absolutely no dead pixels, and the units packaging was first class. The monitor stand is very sturdy, and puts the monitor up at an attractive height. The media center matches the monitor, and is also of high quality. I did not encounter any problems with either unit. After using these products for one month, I can assure you that LG has done their homework in the quality department.
