Overclocking
The
Asus
P3V4X is a decent overclocker, although I couldn’t get it to run above a
133Mhz FSB. This was most likely down to my 3dfx
Voodoo 5 5500 AGP (Which is a bit unreliable when trying to run at
non-standard AGP bus speeds). Using a 133Mhz FSB the AGP bus was at 66Mhz, so
any higher & I was running about standard AGP bus speeds. Either way,
here’s the memory bandwidth score when using both a 133Mhz FSB & a 133Mhz
memory bus speed.
As
you can see, the result isn’t too much higher than using a 100Mhz FSB
& setting the RAM to run at 133Mhz. Most likely the increase here can be
attributed to the increase in L1/2 cache speed.
Now
I decided to test how well the RAM module itself could overclock, for this I set
System/SDRAM Frequency Ratio – 3/4 & increased the FSB above 100Mhz
to simulate higher memory bus speed. The results here show the highest memory
bus speed I could get the RAM to run at, in both CAS 2 & CAS 3.
CAS 3 highest
Running at CAS 3 the highest
speed I could get the RAM to run at was an excellent 153Mhz (FSB of 115Mhz). The
memory bandwidth at this speed being as follows.
