ThermalTake Golden Orb cooler review

Conclusion

The Thermaltake Aircooler, aka The Golden Orb, performed as expected. It did do a better job at heat dissipation than the Intel retail unit. The efficient design of the cooler allowed me to access all of my DIMM slots. Also, I did not notice any loud noise coming from the fan. With some coolers I have used in the past, you would think the computer was warming up to take off with all the sound it made. This is not the case of the Golden Orb. It does emit some sound, but not very much to bother you.

If you are interested in getting the Orb Cooler be sure to check it out at TCWO, they were kind enough to let me have one to test out and I thank them very much for that.

The Golden Orb is a very sleek cooler when it comes to looks as well, hence the name. The cooler obviously isn’t all just looks though. I am very happy on how it performed with my Coppermine, even though my CPU would have operated at 700MHz just fine with the retail unit.

At 700MHz, running at a lower temperature does increase the life of the CPU, but knowing me, I’ll probably get a new CPU in a couple months anyways. If you plan to use a Celeron CPU, you would benefit from using this cooler much more than I did with the Coppermine.
