Every time I think of hardcore PC gaming, the First Person Shooter genre is the first thing that comes to my mind. It must be that I love FPS games or maybe the fact that its one of the few game genres that was actually born in the PC makes me think in that way.

Whatever it is, we have seen how gaming peripherals have been improved in the last year, not only that the PC gaming community is growing everyday but also the introduction of faster ways of communication of the PC with external peripherals such as USB makes manufacturers life easier.

So, my point here is that a racing games fan can get a force feedback wheel and a flight simulator games fan can get a good joystick but what with First Person Shooters??

There have been released a few peripherals such as Microsoft’s SideWinder Dual Strike that have tried to replace the good old keyboard/mouse combo, and although they have got some innovative ideas it’s very improbable that an experienced Quake gamer will want to change his way of playing, so, if the solution isn’t going a new way, why not improving the old one everyone likes?

That’s exactly the focus of kärna, the manufacturers of the Razer Boomslang 1000 & 2000 mouse. We won’t get into much detail about the device name but once thing you should know is that the number of the model of the mouse you get reflects the resolution it is capable of.

While your usual Microsoft/Logitech mouse resolution can go up to 300-400dpi, the Boomslang uses a special technique for achieving 1000 or 2000dpi depending on which model you get. Kärna guys were kind enough for sending me one of the 2000 models for testing, I was really interested on how could my gaming experience be improved.

Impressions

When I first saw the package of the Razer Boomslang the only thing you could see on my face was this smile I just couldn’t change. Overall, the package (which is pretty similar to a typical cookies tin) and instructions reflect the high quality product the Razer is; actually I can bet you will show the package and stuff to your friends when they come over.

Once I had it in my hands I could really appreciate that it feels pretty huge compared to my previous MS Intellimouse. It’s much heavier also and looks prettier.
