Rotokiller a.k.a. "The Equaliser" review

Other points of interest

I mentioned earlier that the 720 came with an Allen key to remove the screws securing the base of the 720, and so the mouse ball. This is quite hard to detach from the yellow ribbon that attaches it to the cable. Quite honestly, I think its an absolute gimmick and I would have much preferred to see Philips head screws used, or no screws at all. However, after battling the transparent base of the 720, the centre of the base mouse ball finally fell out. The rollers, along with mouse ball, are a visually disturbing yellow. This is to show up dirt, and so make cleaning easier. Disassembling and reassembling takes the best of two to three minutes.

In another bizarre quirk, the 720 isn't recognized at boot up. Every time I have to remove and then re-attach the device, which is a pain. I haven't found out what specifically is causing this.

Conclusion

I never really felt totally comfortable with the mouse, although I would put this down to my love of resting my wrist on something. The incredibly small buttons surprisingly did not bother me at all, despite being about 10% of the size of the size of the tertiary button on the Trackball explorer I last reviewed (and criticized for having too small buttons). Despite claims to reduce the risk of Carpal tunnel syndrome, the mouse is anything but ergonomic, and movement is not fundamentally different (or more intuitive) than on standard mice. However, these issues aside, the 720 is a supremely accurate little device, ideally suited for first person shooters.

The 720 is, as of yet, not publicly available. If GWS can get the price right, the little device could be very successful. Put another way, I can't see the 720 selling very well online priced as it is now, at $50 from rotokiller's site, and it is too much of an ugly duckling to do well on the shelves at any great price.
