Overclocking
Sure,
you have paid for the fastest card available on the market
and specifically the highest clocked board on the Ti family
… now you also want the best overclocking results. Like we
mentioned before, the memory on the Xtasy 6964 comes ready
for being overclocked. So, how far could we get it pushed?
I
ran the card at very aggressive clock speeds until I could
finally get a stable overclock. I should also mention that
when I was doing this testing, lights went off in my house
for a moment and that caused my card BIOS to get damaged.
This was a great opportunity for checking how responsive
Visiontek’s tech support is, I talked to them about the
problem and asked them to send over a new BIOS, I’m not
sure what version I got but they were kind enough of sending
the files along with some quick installation instructions
and also a mention that the card would now default clock at
240/258 DDR, that’s a 16 MHz increment for the memory over
the original speed, I’m not sure if this BIOS will ever
see the light but anyway that leave us with the card running
at 240/516 MHz.
I
used NVIDIA Detonator’s built-in utility for overclocking
the card. After some testing I could get the card running
stable at 255/570 MHz, impressive overclocking for a
Titanium 500 considering it’s the fastest clocked card of
the family. Hmmm… I wonder how a Ti200 overclocks;
hopefully I will be able to give you those results soon when
our Titanium card comparison goes up.
