80070005 error upgrading to Windows 10

Hi,

Can anyone please help with the 80070005 error I keep getting when
Windows tries to upgrade from 8.1. I have the Windows 10 app on my pc and it tries to install but stops with this error.

Any help greatly appreciated.

You could try installing Windows 10 using the Microsoft media creation tool. That's the path I used without any issues.

Thanks for that. Where do I download Windows 10 from to use the tool

I click on the exe but nothing happens.

Update: Downlaoded the 32bit edition and it started but then said "setup couldn't start". Tried re booting but the same thing happened. HELP!!!!

The media creation tool sets everything in motion so it downloads, installs and activates Windows 10. You must have a problem in W8.1 that's messing everything up. Maybe the upgrade process screwed up and needs clearing. Sorry but that's just me guessing.

There's probably not much wrong but finding what that is can be a pain. If it was me I'd start with a thorough virus scan. If that doesn't show any problem it's worth looking at whether you have sufficient permissions to allow Windows Update because it's not working properly. The following link might help you.
