Activation problem with XP

Replaced Intel chipset motherboard with an AMD mother board. Did over the top repair now windows tell us to activate before we can login. We can't get to the activation screen and all that shows is an empty desktop. How do we get to the activation screen so we can call Microsoft to activate.? Also can't activate through safe mode.

You might try a full install of Windows on another hard drive. Once Windows is activated you can reinstall the old drive to retrieve data.

Windows xp and later are extremely picky about hardware changes, especially when it comes to motherboards. You will most likely need to call Microsoft support to get it activated again. Or you can try to do a fresh install, but you will likely run into the same issue.

Mica3speedy has the right idea. Calling the activation people at Microsoft... Usually from USA phone numbers, you get some very nice people in Canada that are quite helpful.
