All 775 CPUs compatible?

I have a Gigabyte P965 DS3P motherboard with a C2D E6420 in it at the moment.

I also have another computer with a Q9400.

I'm hoping to swap the Q9400 into the Gigabyte motherboard, and I just want to confirm that this can be done without a problem. I don't want to go through all the trouble swapping them, potentially causing alot of problems with 2 working computers.

The reason I'm swapping is complicated, but I'd like to do it if older motherboards will take newer CPUs of the same socket...

Hmm... a search of Gigabyte site says that there is non-official support on rev 3.3 of this mobo.....

Only if they'd say how to determine the motherboard rev..... Anyone have any idea?

With Gigabyte boards you can usually find the revision in the lower left corner of the board.

I found the same thing you did and was about to ask you what revision you had but you beat me to it.

Looks like I'm in luck, rev 3.3.

Now I gotta do an update... my BIOS ver. F4. Sez needs F7.

Just an update.

I have successfully swapped them, after updating the BIOS to the required version.

Works fine and all.
