Rumor mill: With graphics card prices again heading in the wrong direction and availability still a nightmare, is it really a good time to release a new product line? Rumors claim that’s what Nvidia has planned for early next year with its RTX 30-series Super cards, and now a reliable leaker has posted their alleged specs.

The details come from prolific leaker kopite7kimi, who has a good track record with this sort of thing; they revealed information on the Ampere lineup ahead of its release last year.

There has long been speculation of Nvidia repeating what it did with Turing and releasing a refreshed line of Ampere cards carrying the Super moniker; we last heard rumors of an RTX 3090 Super last month. Whether the specs in this leak end up in the actual products remains to be seen as even kopite7kimi thinks some of them could be off, so treat this one with the usual dose of salt reserved for all rumors.

RTX 3090 Super RTX 3090 RTX 3080 Super RTX 3080 RTX 3070 Super RTX 3070 RTX 3060 Super RTX 3060
SMs 84 82 70 68 46 46 44 28
CUDA Cores 10,752 10,496 8,960 8,704 5,888 5,888 5,632 3,584
Memory 24GB GDDR6X 24GB GDDR6X 12GB GDDR6X 10GB GDDR6X 8GB GDDR6X 8GB GDDR6 12GB GDDR6 12GB GDDR6
Memory bus 384-bit 384-bit 384-bit 320-bit 256-bit 256-bit 192-bit 192-bit

Looking first at what could be the RTX 3090 Super— kopite7kimi isn’t sure the card will use this name—it will allegedly feature the full GA102 GPU, offering 10,752 CUDA cores, lining up with a previous claim by Greymon55. That’s just 256 more CUDA cores than the vanilla 3090, representing a 2.4% increase, and it has the same 24 GB GDDR6X memory. However, the memory will be faster at over 20 Gbps, and we previously heard the TGP will be more than 50W higher than the RTX 3090, taking it to 400W+.

The RTX 3080 Super has two more SMs (70) than its standard version, making for 8,960 cores. It’s also said to add another 2GB of GDDR6X memory, taking the total to 12GB.

Then there’s the RTX 3070 Super. While the other Super cards receive minor spec upgrades, this one appears virtually identical to its predecessor. The only difference is that the memory has changed from GDDR6 to GDDR6X.

As was the case with the RTX 2060 Super, the most significant upgrade is reserved for the RTX 3060 Super. Its SM count goes from 28 to 44, or 3,584 to 5,632 CUDA cores, suggesting it will move away from the GA106 die used in the standard RTX 3060 and move to the same GA104 found in the RTX 3060 Ti. The Ti version, for comparison, has 38 SMs (4,864 CUDA cores), while the Super comes with 4GB more memory—12GB GDDR6.

To reiterate: these are just rumors, but we’ve heard so much about the RTX 30-series Super line that its appearance seems inevitable. Just don’t expect the cards to be well-priced or easy to find. The new SKUs are also likely to cause confusion in an Ampere series that includes Ti models, especially when the performance differences between the variants appear minimal.

Permalink to story.

Kinda pointless??? It would be funny to see if next time everybody would just wait for the super lineup, and no one would buy the original.

I see they want to make extra sure nobody has enough cards by launching at the same time as intel pretty much ensuring neither of them will have enough chips coming through TSMC which is what both are using.

If RTX 3080 Super is inferior to 3080Ti, it is a pointless product then. And there is certainly nothing super about it...

Whether it's pointless depends on the price. The 3080 Super could be quite a bit cheaper than the 3080 Ti. Being actually available would help too.

RTX 3070 Super is the dumbest thing that can happen. I don't really think the GDDR6X will do it any favor when it comes to performance, while at the same time bumping power consumption up drastically. On the other hand, RTX 3060 Super is too generous an upgrade in my opinion. If you look at the rest of the line up, you mostly get very tiny upgrade over the non Super version. So I think this may not happen.

Nvidia: Don't worry gamers! We're here to the rescue! We hear that you're still in need of GPUs so we are launching our new [drum roll] SUPER LINE UP!

<waits for a resounding cheer, but only hears crickets>

Nvidia: Errmmm...Yes. That's correct! A Super line of our RTX 3000 series will be hitting the shelves soon!

Gamer1: Boo! You suck!
Gamer2: You can't even supply your current line of cards, what the hell makes you think we want to spend more money on other cards you won't be able to supply us with?
Gamer3: What a f'ing loser!

Nvidia: The cards will provide improved performance with having greater CUDA cores.....

Gamer4: Shut up! Go away!
Gamer5: Bring us Alchemist!
Gamer6: Yeah! Let us give Intel our money! Maybe they can at least give us GPUs.
Gamer1: You still suck!

Nvidia: They will come with more memory and better bandwi....

Gamer4: I said, shut the F up! I can't stand this crap anymore from you lying pricks.
<sounds of people leaving the auditorium>

Nvidia: .....but, this means that RayTracing will be....<softly starts to cry because no one is left in the room to listen to him>

Maybe I'm short sighted but Isn't the TI versions of multiple cards basically the same?
The super is basically a way for Nvidia to sell faulty Ti dies without lowering them down to the standard version. 3080ti has so bad cores? Well, sell it as a 3080 super instead of a normal 3080

I'm surprised that no one sees that the 3080 Super's role is to completely fade out 3080, while also being more expensive... Isn't it obvious?

Jensen regrets making such a good card like 3080 for $700 MSRP (which is the best bang for buck GPU in the entire Ampere lineup), so the only way to correct his mistake and make the 3080 disappear forever is the 3080 Super.

So how much do you think 3080 Super will cost, $900? $1000? That's MSRP, because we all know it will have a very different scalper price in the end...

Lets pour one for the myth called AMD GPUs, since media sites somehow have erased their existence.

Only Nvidia and Intel makes GPUs.

But lets say that AMD did make GPU's and they announced a new one, I can bet your behind that the writer will make sure to mention Nvidia, RT, DLSS and whatever else they can.

What a shame.

Lots of people said something similar last time with the 3080 launch and almost immediately regretted 8t when the rumors of one coming in December 2020 or a little later never played out and then they couldn't get anything by that time at any reasonable price.

Likley most next time will be smarter and not even hesitate as they don't want to be stuck for a year plus without being able to upgrade when they actually need it.

Either way the same amount of cards will be produced that TSMC is capable of supplying.

That's true, but I still trust AMD to have better driver support overall than intel out of the gate and Nvidia also ahead of both (But they're likely to remain in Samsung though)

You're missing the point of a super refresh.

It's not the same as a new line of "Ti" class cards to complement current cards.

It's a replacement line that sees the current cards performanced leaped while keeping pricing roughly the same. These cards are also not splitting availability either because moving forward they are the only cards being produced vs the older non super models.

So it's essentially only a "free" performance upgrade to those able to find the cards in stock moving forward and to make sure they still look favorable in comparison to upcoming competition (arc / anything amd may be planning to release).

I would say the only people who should be upset by a "super" refresh is anyone who has successfully gotten a card very recently and is now missing out on what would have been a faster card had they waited just a bit longer.

Dang could you sound any more salty that AMDs attempt at competing with Nvidia still hasn't reached a real attempt that people care about?

Nvidia just offers a more compelling product to most people whether that's from performance features marketing or a combination of all 3 is debatable but the truth is that overall they are preferred.

Simple as that.

I'm all for amd "beating" Nvidia I used radeon gpu's for over a decade but in the last 8+ years I haven't seen a compelling reason to go back.

If and when they have the ultimate gpu worth the ultimate features I'm there but for now it's Nvidia all the way for me. (and most other gamers wanting the best)
