Why? Explain to me how a diverse fantasy show impacts your day to day life that you feel a need to review bomb it? Clearly it's not about the "mythos" as you yourself explained you don't know a whole lot about it.
I never promoted review bombing.
If it comes off like they are trying too hard then it take me out of the show. That goes for anything really...not just "woke" content.

yes, because I just taught it to you. I was talking about previously when you clearly did not know the definition.
If you really think you taught me something then you think far too much of yourself.
Honestly you come off as a very angry and disrespectful person. But hey...maybe I'm just reading you wrong.

disrespectful? My handle isn't "niceferret"
angry? I'm not the one one tossing a hissfy fit because amazon won't let me review bomb a show because I find their cast "diverse" 🤣

But I have not seen anyone here having a hissy fit over not being able to review bomb. Who are you speaking of?

don't watch. Nothing wrong with not liking the show. If it last five years, good for it. If it's one year and done, eh they tried whatever. My wife likes virgin river, I find it stupid. I don't review bomb it or toss a hissy fit if netflix prevents me from doing so.

But I have not seen anyone here having a hissy fit over not being able to review bomb. Who are you speaking of?
it's in the first paragraph of the article

"The Rings of Power, which has received a number of negative reviews over its diverse cast playing the roles of elves, dwarfs, and other Middle-earth races. "

those bastards, scoring a show for entertainment based on "entertainment value". What is the world we live in coming to?!
Again, you are ignoring the fact that TLOR is not just a Marvel comics worlds with multiverses and all of that. It is one of the most popular fantasy series, well, ever. It's also a literary classic and ageless as far as its themes and plot. So no, entertainment value and production value are not enough when you are trying to write into something like TLOR. You need competent writers that understand the world and the lore, which obviously didn't happen here. And you don't write in your political and social agendas whether they are right or wrong, they don't belong to a work that has nothing to do with them. So yes, the fans have legitimate issues with TROP, whether you like the show or not doesn't matter.

Agree. And I wouldn't watch if it was what I described.

Right. But I said you come off as angry and your response was to point back at the people review bombing. They are irrelevant to my comment and they are not on this forum so I don't understand your point.

great, I personally don't care. But the point of the article isn't tolkein "fans" having issues with the show. It's a bunch of nitwits having a hissy fit because they can't review bomb a show on amazon.com.

So is it impossible that the show isn't good? I mean I have not seen it and I hope I enjoy it but what if it's just...not good? Could it be possible that it's getting higher scores than it deserves because of biased professional "woke" reviewers? Is that impossible?

yes, they are *****s who need a life and I stated as much in my original post.

if they are irrelevant than why did you quote me about them? I didn't start this conversation with you.
They are irrelevant in regard to you being an angry and disrespectful person.
So again why would you point at them and say "but they are this and that"?
I was speaking of your attitude and especially towards me with the stupid Webster's dictionary link of which you thought was super clever.

than it's not good and you don't like it and there is no contract you signed that you have to watch it

Could it be possible that it's getting higher scores than it deserves because
sure, could also be possible (currently seems probable) it's getting lower scores than it deserves. Regardless you already stated you don't care much for reviews so why is the review score impacting you now.

because of biased professional "woke" reviewers? Is that impossible?
what is a "woke" reviewer? Could reviewers be biased? Sure, a few but they can also be biased for exact opposite reasons. You may like cats and review the musical about them well, I may prefer dogs and review the musical harshly.

why do you care about my attitude towards you? I'm some person on the internet.

Now the websters dictionary link I is not stupid, it's accurate and serves a purpose to help educate people.

As for posting the link being "clever"? Let's agree to disagree

That's correct I don't have to watch it. But my comment was because you dismiss the idea that the reviews could be bad because the show is bad. Maybe it's a bad show and the review bombing isn't actually bombing at all?

I was asking a question in regard to your comment. I never said their opinions were of any importance to me.

How can it be that a reviewer could be biased if reviews are not based on opinions? Or is it just that because their opinions are more valid? But I didn't think one opinion could be more valid than another....so yeah.

I don't care about your attitude towards me. I'm just trying to understand why you pointed to review bombers when I said you had a bad attitude and were disrespectful.

The link itself is not stupid but the reasoning behind the link was stupid as it didn't serve any purpose at all.

. Maybe it's a bad show and the review bombing isn't actually bombing at all?I was asking a question in regard to your comment. I never said their opinions were of any importance to me.
and my comment was to the article saying it was and my opinion is "it's correct". If you don't care for the article or find it somehow affront to your own opinion than quote the article. If you don't care for my opinion, I don't care.

Or is it just that because their opinions are more valid?
Their opinions carry more weight as they make a living for writing them and are scene by more people. Validity is up to you. Steve Walton's techspot reviews carry more weight than some fanboy posting on a forum because Steve gets paid for them and has not been fired for being incompetent. Whether or not you find them valid is up to you.

As for you hijacking this thread, I've grown tired of wasting my time.

Opinions based on movies is very different than opinions based on tech. Tech is easily measured.

You can't measure people's "entertainment value" as everyone is so different.
No matter how much money a reviewer makes it isn't going to have the least bit of impact on how much someone enjoys a movie.

I'm sure you have grown tired. I'll let you go and be angry elsewhere.

This is a strawman. This is not what fans are upset about, but it is a convenient strawman for Amazon and the writers when in reality their billion $ product is terrible.
The legitimate concerns are about that. But there are plenty of much less legitimate concerns. Some of the comments here seem to be revolving around the fact they brought in a black dude as an elf in LOTR and talking about how Game Of Thrones had too many women characters by the end... rather than talking about the legitimate issues such as potential poor quality of the writing.

Many of the review bombers who gave a negative review immediately upon release without even watching the show would really be criticizing the show for these use of minorities and women rather than the poor quality of writing, acting, etc.

Europe has no history of dark skin people in Italy, Spain, southern Mediterranean???
LOTR is Scandinavian mythos: a long way from the Med. The dark-skinned races are outsiders and -- when they arrive in force -- alien invaders, interested in rapine and conquest.

But, as others have already attempted to inform you, the problem isn't the inclusion of other races. It's doing so for reasons of socio-political agitprop, rather than for entertainment.

Cry you can't leave a review? pathetic!
Amazon has built a business model around allowing honest reviews of their products. When they break that model, their customers rightfully become upset.

You don't owe the writers anything, they don't owe you anything.
On the contrary, when you pay a fair price, you expect a fair product. If a show doesn't provide the entertainment it promised, it gets panned. This rule is millennia old: in Medieval times, a bad actor or playwright might be paraded through the streets and pelted with rotten vegetables. In the Roman era, a bad gig in the Coliseum cost you your life. Today, we just leave bad reviews.

you keep saying I'm angry but it's strange how intent you are on having the last word and going after me? Perhaps you are just angry? Perhaps I'm so far inside your head you just can't get me out? Now that's not angry, that's funny! but than again you are bad at figuring out what me feelings are so I really should not have high expectations of your abilities. You did not know what the word "professional" meant until I explained it to you after all. Regardless, au revoir. You have my permission to have the last word.

ha..you're not in anyone's head. Again you think far too much of yourself.
I was kind of enjoying trying to understand the nonsense you have been typing in this forum.
Thank you for your permission. ;)

No. While it is heavily based on northern European, British-Scandanvian myths, it does include people and influences from other places. Gondor is inhabited by tanned people who are more representative of Southern Europeans - eg. The Greeks and Romans.
Aragon is supposed to be more tanned/darker than the other main characters, which is probably why the cartoon LOTR from the 1980s portrayed him as looking like a Native American dude.

According to various Tolkein discussions, Gondor is mostly based on the Roman Empire and Greco-Roman Eastern Roman Empire, with additional influences from the Holy Roman Empire, and even Ancient Egypt. The Rohan horsemen have some influences from steppe people.

The swarthy/brownish Haradrim is influenced by people of the the Middle East, and the black skinned Haradrim may represent the darker people of Africa. And the Haradrim weren't originally bad - they were enslaved and colonized by Numeanoreans who were corrupted by Sauron...which led them to later become servants of Sauron. IRRC, Aragon makes peace with them after he becomes king.
The Wildman of Dunland who fought Rohan came in all sorts of colors and sizes and they were originally brutalized by the Numeanoreans and the ancient Rohirrim stole their lands. Gondor and Rohan makes peace with them by the end of Lord of the Rings.

The Orcs themselves are just corrupted elves...and they're not supposed to be dark skinned - just a sickly pale color. So the idea that dark skinned people are the "bad guys" in Lord of the Rings is a big misinterpretation.

The Rohirrim of the Mark are based on the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia -- the word "Mark" itself is a corruption of the Saxon word "Mearc" for Mercia, and the major characters from Rohan have Mercian names.

The most common adjective used to describe them in the books is "swarthy". And the worst of the orcs are the black-skinned Uruks of Mordor -- who speak the appropriate-named "black speech"; sometimes called the "dark tongue"
