Yes, you have a serious software problem and this is game developers problem, not AMD's problem. I am pretty confident that the 2600X with HT disabled (6 cores), will be within 10% of the performance of i5 8400. That 16T 2700X Ryzen stays at 25% usage, whereas the Intel i5 8400 is close to 100%. It means that:
- either games are not yet really optimized for multicore CPUs;
- you have a performance reserve with 2700X that you don't have with i5 8400. You can stream while gaming, for example, without caring too much about it -> this in turn means that in one year time, when games will be more demanding, the 2700X will start to show its performance advantage, while the 6 core i5 8400 will be pegged at 100% and slowly become obsolete.
