AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D, Which Should You Buy?

Why can’t they fix cpu naming conventions so it’s obvious which is newer / better? Both AMD and Intel naming is stupid.
They kinda do. 1000s is the generation, 100s is the tier, 10s (usually 50) is the iteration. The remaining letters have to do with extra stuff like onboard graphics or increased cache.

If you are spending $2000 on a GPU, does $75 more for the CPU really break the bank? Might as well give yourself the extra GPU upgrade runway.
Also, 9800X3D is good for productivity too unlike the 7800X3D which really is a one trick pony. Can't wait for Zen 6 with 12 core ccd, 10800X3D with 12 cores and big chunk of v-cache, hopefully even further improved, will not only be a gaming beast but a productivity beast than should easily beat 9900X3D for productivity let alone smash it for gaming.

These are cases where oc'ing and or undervolting become very compelling. I'm sure a properly tuned 7800 can match or beat the 9800 at stock.
