AMD is reportedly planning to roll out its new ultra-thin platform at the end of October or early November. Dubbed "Congo," the mobile platform is specifically tuned for ultra-portable notebooks and was originally intended for a late July release, but AMD delayed the summer launch amid weak demand for ultra-thin systems.
Upcoming Congo systems will feature a dual-core Turion Neo X2 L625, Athlon Neo X2 L335/L325, or a single-core Athlon Neo MV-40 processor paired with AMD's M780G chipset. Congo also brings an ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics chip, a dual channel memory controller, a low profile BGA package, an 800MHz hyper-transport.
Based on Digitimes' report, HP seems to be the fondest of Congo and may adopt it more quickly than other manufacturers. AMD expects to launch two more ultra-thin platforms over the next two years called Nile and Brazos, and the company's latest traditional notebook platform, Tigris, will appear sometime after the debut of Windows 7.
