About 20 years ago, I said jokingly that the authorities have a really good surveillance system so the adversaries don't even have to make their own and if they want to know something they can just walk in, look for anything they desire and nobody will know.

Hackers working for the authorities have lots of pride, but only because they use secret universal tools that do all the work for them. They got no real skills, no understanding, little education. Just pride, a powerful tool and mindset of an alcoholic. Also there's the matter of intentional backdoors due to the high level corruption.

Hegseth drank heavily for a couple years after returning from two combat tours as a Marine officer, where he was multiply decorated. He talks about how he overcame that in his books and the speeches he gave as president of a veterans advocacy group. Those whose only experience of combat is smoking a bowl while playing Call of Duty shouldn’t judge anyone who actually went through that.

There are number of actions Trump has taken with which I disagree, but he's the first President in 40 years -- Democrat and Republican both -- whose every move isn't driven by polls and focus groups. He's taken a number of acts which were generally unpopular at the time, but later even his opponents admitted he was correct. For example, his first-term insistence that European NATO allies increase defense budgets, or his original China tariffs which Democrats roundly criticized ... but then elected Joe Biden, who kept them all in place.

The world isn't black or white... I'm NOT a Donald Trump fan myself... but... not everything he's done is wrong, nor is he "the devil". My main gripe with him is that he has taken advantage of the polarization of the US - and exacerbated it immensely. There was a time when Democrats and Republicans would still respect each other - even be friends with each other - and now people just scream "Maga" or "TDS" or some slogan and don't even bother with civil arguments... it's just "your side is evil"...
To be clear though, Trump didn't cause this - it basically got serious during the Bush/Gore election, and has only deteriorated since... what's worse, it's spread to other countries as well... He's just done a masterful job of taking advantage of it.
