Automatic updates: Microsoft adds double-edged sword clause in Windows 10 Home

Ya maybe for the slower people who cant do more than point and click with a mouse.
Software support is abysmal. Config requires command line knowledge. Out of the box, 90% of apps are command line config (whenever you have a problem - which you always do). There's a reason it hasn't taken off on desktop - people don't care for learning command line. Linux on desktop is largely irrelevant and will remain that way until their attitude to usability changes. People have way better things to do than learn Linux.

This is bull. My internet connection is not that good and already with the technical preview I've had updates that were stuck or messed up partially because the internet is not reliable. I've also had it write over my most recent nVidia drivers automatically. Second of all I just don't like my connection being used without my notice. I watch my bandwidth like a hawk and it sucks when I'm doing something and it feels slow and then I find out I'm in the middle of a giant download from Microsoft. This also affects me when I'm at work as I've found my laptop just doing downloads of hundreds of MB on its own. I don't get what was wrong with the old system. Default the OS to automatic background updating if you want but give me the option to control the updates.

Even if there are valid reasons for updates I do not see any reason they should be compulsory. Yet another example how MS are removing choice from users. Sounds a bit like Ford in the old days. Any colour provided it is black.

I'm sure glad they listened to my advice to get rid of Media Center!

It makes Windows 10 much more flexible....

I guess Microsoft never figures on the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people that are fed up with the direction Microsoft has taken, and "Volunteer" their valuable time to post "Quality" input to a company they no longer trust.

Now think for a moment that the ethical people have departed to their private island somewhere and no longer see the value in giving their input to a large, floundering Corporation like Microsoft, which leaves a pool of fanbois and people with less than stellar motivations.

Of course, seeing the mentality of Redmond these days, they wouldn't know a malicious suggestion if it bit them, as long as it supports all the wasted development money they have shoveled into their recent failed projects.

Skype you later! (meaning stay off my computer MS after I install the OS. I grant YOU a one time license to install. After that, you'll need to get another license)

Of course, the statement raises the following issue. If Microsoft patches my computer in a non trivial way, wouldn't that force a renewal/review of the License?

Linux is easy to learn and most apps are far better on Linux and free. It hasn't gone mainstream because people are lazy and stupid.... Windows user think they know about computers but they don't know crap about anything.

No that is EXACTLY the point. Majority of Windows users *do not know anything about computers*. Nor do they care. They want something intuitive and usable. Windows does that a *lot* better than Linux which is why Linux has 1.x% of the desktop market despite showing so much promise.

Honestly it won't matter to me much. I always get the pro version of windows OS's. I like to have access to the networking and server connectivity features in pro. For example, windows 7 home cant connect to a domain and it does not have the users and groups option in the computer management mmc. Those are small things but there is alot more. More is better in my opinion.

I agree. Most windows users dont know a thing. I mean I have customers that google the site I tell them to put in the address bar. I have used linux mint and ubuntu for months at a time. At first it was hard. I had to do a lot of research to get running tge way I wanted. Especially the command line code. Its so different from batch scripting or VB scripting.
