Best Buy charging $30 for free PS3 firmware update

Places charge for things you can do for free yourself all the time(IE,change wiper blades, clean your house). It saves people time to do other things.
Not everyone on the planet has internet so to pay someone to upgrade your system is fair but it's the way it advertised I don't agree with.
Walmart is the worst place on earth to shop, if you care about humanity at all you wouldn't shop there. I drive right by it, I haven't been in there in years.

I hope people who buy this know that there will be future firmware upgrades, so its not exactly like this $30 "upgrade" will be the last, they're going to have to upgrade again eventually. If the employees are decent enough they should let customers know that any game comes with the firmware needed to run it so its truly a waste of $30. Shame on you Best Buy, shame on you

And people wonder why I say "I have no respect for Geek Squad" when they bring them up. They either overcharge or hire *****s. I've heard computer sales associate and Geek Squad techs spout out BS simply because they either did not know the answer to the customers question, or they were just trying to squeeze money out of them.

And it's not just with the computers...when 3D tvs came out, I had questions...and the associates were stumbling all over themselves trying to give me an answer...using big words they thought I wouldn't understand. Sorry, but if you're going to sale technology, you'd better be able to explain what you are selling, especially to customers who don't know what they're getting into. I've been in sales, and one of the rules is "talk to the customer on their level...using big words can scare them away." And now i'm drifting off topic...

I get that a lot of people hate Wal-mart, but I'm a realist. I'm not going to pay more somewhere else just on principle, when there's no guarantee that people there are treated any better. The world is ugly, and that's just a fact of life. If I boycotted every company that was unfair to their employees or treated men better than women, I would have to live on some remote part of the world with no running water or electricity, eating roots and berries.

TBH sony might be sponsoring this with the Jailbreaks going around maybe they want the latest firmware on all the systems...

Maybe it would be ok if they were charging that much to downgrade to <3.42, but that's impossible for now. JB FTW

"The price is fair though for the time it take for their geek squad agents to preform the flash."

Are you nuts? $30 for 30 seconds of work? Yeah the work that they do is worth $3600 an hour at that rate *rolls eyes*

that price is not ****ing fair, ****ing ******* guest, thats why geek squad gets away with this type of ****, because of dumbasses like you, that go and pay 30 dollars for ****ing update that is free even if you don't have an internet connection, it comes on the disc, IF its necessary

Well you're mistaken there, sorry. The thing is, you DON'T need internet access to get the latest FW upgrade and you don't even have to point and click anywhere. Any new game you buy will AUTOMATICALLY prompt to upgrade straight from the disc. No internet required, nor is it even necessary to do 3 commands to upgrade it otherwise. You can also simply download the FW from Sony's website on to a USB stick and upgrade at home, if your home doesn't have Internet. Really there's NO excuse to do this. I used to work at BB when I was in college in early 2000, my sales manager back then told us to stick EVERYONE with an extended warranty and to throw things into customer's carts when they weren't looking. So this is just a continuation of those policies of a desperate, soon to be bankrupt, business. Who shops at BB today anyhow when you have places like Newegg and Amazon? Or that's right, teens and impatient people with no money of their own.

Best Buy is going out like CompUSA ... down the tubes into the gutter .. in less than a year they will be no more .... gone .. poof ...

See ya Best Buy .... Rip Offs .. The company is...

The People at best buy, are great and friendly people, to bad the big CEO can't run the company better, only into the ground, him and his 4 million dollar bonuses..

Hello Newegg ...

I don't remember if i read it here or from another website but i think someone pointed out that Bestbuy used to offer addt'l protection plan for Black Ops disc for $15....lol

30? That's nothing.they want 100 to upgrade the firmware on a ssd I JUST bought yesterday. Funny theyll stock and sell hardware with known firmware glitches that make key advertised features useless then try to rape you again after you get home and realize it. Vultures

not sure why the 120GB models are still selling for $300 in the first place... same price as 160GB

Best Buy is always looking to squeeze a bit more out of your wallet with these "special services"

I think some of the early 120 GB slim models were exploitable. Not entirely sure though.
