BOE's latest display for cars is 45-inches in 8K, takes over the entire front console

Uhh, no one's gaslighting you. The article literally says this sedan starts at around $25,000. Cheaper than anything Tesla can put out and most likely more reliable. So why cry about the size of the screen? I'm so tried of people constantly whining about things they don't like. Yes, progress is hard, deal with it. If you don't like something, like giant screens, guess what? You can vote with your wallet and not buy it. Sorry to tell you but we're never going back to knobs, dials, oil lamps, and horse drawn carriages.

I don't think anybody considers the removal of physical buttons in a car "progress". It doesn't just look ugly, it's a major safety hazard.

I just have this weird imagination, accident occurs, glass everywhere....unless there is a way to stop it from smashing...big gorilla glass cover

There is a reason fighter jets still use hardware buttons instead of all touchscreens. It's because touchscreens are more distracting and less safe when operating any vehicle. Muscle memory depends on being able to locate a physical button or switch.

This craze needs to end. I will not buy a vehicle that does this.

Here in Brazil, CD/DVD players with "large" screens for cars were forbidden because their 6 or 7 inches screens too much of a distraction for the driver. Now, a car has a screen bigger than the one I use at my computer.

So, what happens when the screen is killed by extreme heat (it's a fact) or cracked? Replacing this monstrosity might easily cost 1/3 the price of the car itself! Labor cost alone is astronomical (dealers in the US charge $220 / hour, and that's at Hyundai, others might charge even more)

And all that glare, and having to reach all the way to the end of the screen to do something is an accident inducing exercise.

But the car is not bad looking, and all the flashing LEDs are an RGB lover's wet dream!!

so bigger screens are def comin! We even got screens on computer cases and fans now. We give them to little kids to shut them up. They aren't going anywhere for anyone that thinks they are.
That might be the most depressing thing I ever read.

We can tell these designers don't actually drive cars...

They are trying to build my simulator and put actual wheels on it...! D0mb is d0mb.. and these hopefuls have no idea what driving is.

Putting moAr of a screen in a car is not progress. (it's a child going to far with a new word)

Vehicles have thousands of pounds of weight and are driven with responsibility, not gamesmanship. Any daily driver will TELL YOU that this is a joke, not real and gaslighting like a prototype does. Bcz nobody in the history of driving needs/wants this.

It are always tryhards with no license who think it would be kewl to drive it...

99% of focus should be on the outside of the car... you should NEVER have to look down to operate a car's function.

Just imagine the cost to repair / replace that baby ..... I'll stick with my old gauges ....

And honestly, if you believe that the vehicle shown int he article will be $25k, you may want to contact Reddit Cares, because I'm pretty sure you're having a mental breakdown. There is no feasible way such a vehicle will cost so little. No EV maker has come close to making something like that for such a low price. But you would never question a corporation when they present you marketing material, right?

Multiple websites are listing the Geely Galaxy E8 as having that same starting price of RMB 175,800, or a bit under $25k. And there are plenty of other Chinese electric sedans already for sale, in the same ballpark. The Changan Deepal SL03 starts at RMB 167,900 or about $24k, the BYD Seal starts at RMB 189,800 or about $27k, to give two examples. Granted, that is the price in China, prices in other areas may vary.

And they will not be allowed to sell this cheap in the West. European authorities already have suspicions regarding low prices of Chinese EVs sold in Europe. They suspect these prices include subsidies that manufacturers do not talk about.
This auto looks like a nice ride for 25k. But I suppose its price would be closer to 35-40k if they sold outside China

This is why I'll never buy an EV most likely as all manufacturers are doing similar things just on a smaller scale. Interior of most EV's is more clinical than a morgue and devoid of anything someone that enjoys driving would like. Tesla's are now the pits.

Once things settle down, the designs will improve. There are some cars that do look ok, but right now things are too wild :)
