Broken CD Drive

My Cd drive isn't working. It won't play any Cd's or DVD. I need help

This should be actually posted under General Hardware. CD/DVD drives usually last from 3-5 years, sometimes less and sometimes more. How old is the drive? it may be time to buy and install a new one.

All CD players (optical drives fail) all of them... Some don't last 7 months. You are facing the luck of the draw. You just hope they will last a year.
They are so cheap that you just pull the current one out and toss it, then install another.
Even the once-reliable Plextors has slipped... But you can still get good luck with an LG, many Samsungs, Lite-On, Pioneer... We just bought a supply of LG and Pioneer for $22 each, and I feel comfortable we will be happy with them. The Plextors would last two years, but then the prices are three to four times higher..
