Brother MFC 4800 fax out problem

Hi -

Freestanding - not running from CPU - worked OK 4- 5 years - now (today) receives faxes OK but handshake with remote fax - can't connect. Any ideas?

It may be time to buy another FAX machine

We have had some luck with partial disassembly and thoroughly cleaning with denatured alcohol, while also pulling and reseating all cables.
But I agree with TMagic650... As IBM once said, "there comes a time when each device reaches the end of its useful product life."
It only takes one of those tiny little chips or circuits to burn out... and they will all burn out eventually...

Appreciated. For whatever reason, the poor thing spontaneously resumed working normally about 10 days after the first post and has continued to do so since. Maybe the equivalent of putting a golf club in the garage.
