BSOD for windows xp

My friend is having a "BSOD" error.

Here is his description:

"During the splash screen a blue screen appears and says an unexpected error was detected and windows is going to shut down to prevent damage"

I asked him for the code and he gave me:
***stop: 0x00000018, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xf92ed25f***iastor.sys-address f92ed25f base at f92de000, datestamp 42b2df42 DRVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Anyone can help him fix it?

First the 0x18 error is very obscure and it requires further research but the one thing that is informative is that iastor.sys is a Windows OS driver used to control the SATA disks, usually for raid systems but still used in normal single disk setups as well.

Also, DRVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is a 0xD1 error and these are usually caused by faulty drivers though sometimes by mismatched or faulty RAM.

Without his minidumps to read it will be more difficult to provide help.

One thing he might want to consider is going into his BIOS and disabling the splash screen. I had issues with mine but once I disabled it I had no further issues.
