Ever since loading Windows Vista service pack 2, the sound isn't working.

This is on board sound, Asus M2N SLI NVIDIA nForce 560 motherboard.

Speakers work (tried on another computer.)

Control Panel --> Sound --> Properties - indicated everything is working properly.

--> Update drivers - indicates I am using the most updated driver.

C-Media website had nothing and I couldn't find anything on the Asus website.

Could use a little help.

Thanks!

Remove or disable your old drivers in the Device Manager, then download and install the new one from the ASUS or sound device site.

Tried That

i had microsoft online here for over an hour and they couldn't figure it out either.

The updated driver i found wasn't from ASUS however. I couldn't find anything on their website. The '"new" driver I found was at:

x-drivers.com/

catalog/companies/c-media/drivers/sound_cards/models/cm6501/1852.html[/url]

The microsoft tech didn't find anyhting either. So, here I sit with no sound.

Any other suggestions?

Too many times the audio is damaged by being overdriven by too much volume, or too much heat from continual use.
Those cannot be fixed if the hardware is damaged.

That would be some kind of coincidence

Sound works.

Install service pack 2

restart

sound doesn't work.

??

Second question.

If i install a stand alone sound card, are there "jumpers" that have to be set on the MB? I can't find any info on that in this users guide.

It is an Asus M2N SLI NVIDIA nForce 560 motherboard, AMD Dual Core.

Does anyone know offhand, or have suggestions for a godd (and cheap) sound card?
