Can't install Sims 2 Double Deluxe

I just got Sims 2 Double Deluxe as a gift and I can not get it installed. I put the Dvd disc in, and before it can do any steps toward installing I get an error box.

"Electronic Arts AutoRun has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I have looked over the net, and many boards trying to find an answer for this.

I have:

Tried the manual install... copying the files and taking the disk out and clicking on AutoRun from there and I still get the same error.

Tried both of my drives.

Exchanged the game twice hoping it was the disk. Friend took my latest disk home and it loaded fine on her computer.

Used the "Can I play this" tool and came back that my computer should have no problem running it.

I can play the "extra disk" that comes with the Double Deluxe fine. I just can't get the game to install. It instantly shows this error as soon as it tries to boot the install up.

Any ides?

Maybe you need newer graphics drivers and/or DirectX 9.

My drivers are all updated, and I already have DirectX 9c.. which is the recommended one.

What are your PC component specifications? I know you said you ran a game compatibility tool but knowing your specs might suggest a solution to someone.
