CD Driver not working

I have an ASUS laptop with Vista and for the first week everything worked fine, but then all of a sudden the CD driver stopped reading CD's, but it still reads DVD's fine. There's no error that comes up when i try to run a CD, it just doesn't recognise it's in there (i.e. can't hear any spinning).

So far i've tried reinstalling the drive, but this hasn't fixed it. The driver is completely up to date, so i don't know what to do next. Any help?

Usually it's the other way around when DVD drives fault
They can still read CDs but not DVDs

I followed the steps in that reset, but there wasn't anything in the right pane of the registry editor that said "Upperfilters" or "Lowerfilters", is that a problem?
Just tried to use a cd then and it now appears to be spinning, but still not working
