I've never been as embarrassed to be an American as I was watching the declaration of the doomed-to-fail "trade war" turn into the complete decimation of America's way of life during that disastrous presidency.

I just hope that the inevitable collapse of the racism leads to emerging countries having the democratic freedom to grow after the west has lost all control of them.

Racism is a huge issue that hurts people, but the US has racists, russia has racists, india has racists (and classists) and china has lots of racists.

China has one huge advantage that the US has always had - A big local consumer base - Many NZ companies have to go straight to world market .
I get it we have alliances with the US , that you will be criticised if you go in to Somalia or if you don't. I saw China arrested nearly all democracy protesters in HK. Even when I visited Tibet 25 years ago LHasa had became a Han city . I saw the fear in Kashgar , Urumqi - I knew it had a huge army base there - that there were huge prison camps in the Xiqing desert.
It's hard to change that or even to get the US to recognise certain UN Charters on human rights.
But for the average Joe in the street -it won't matter who the top economic super power is .
Plus as stated earlier by me the world needs a new paradigm - It's not really the time of the British empire - we need a better win/win for all including nature .
Even in the Win/Lose culture of the US - you have games where it's based on getting the slowest over the line - Leave no Marine behind and all that.
Even though the US is secular ( couldn't decide which Christian denomination was correct )- it's the basis of Islam/Judaism/Christianity to look after the poor , the weak etc

Australian here who spent several years in NZ. Sadly Australia has done some pretty nasty things in recent years (treatment of asylum seekers and stealing oil rights from east timor) and yes it does think its a bit more powerful than it is.

I want to live in a country that speaks out about human rights abuses and other important issues without fear. I want our government to condemn ethnic cleansing in china, invasion of the ukraine by russia, bombings of civilians by the US, genocide in ethiopia, the saudi invasion if yemen, recognises Taiwan officially etc.

To be able to do that, I want Australia to always act in a way that is consistent with those values, meaning no theft of oil, no war crimes, a military that is suited to protecting Australia and its allies from aggression, a diversified market for its commodities, diversified sourcing for goods and a high degree of energy independence by reducing the use of imported oil.

I suspect you would like the same for NZ?

the entire shutting down biz for this virus is a joke. 99.95 percent survival rate in usa.... yet we destroyed small biz and made big coorp bigger. hmmm

I bid them good luck. It's not the Japanese do not learn any of their modus operandi, infact Japanese were the one invented it couple of decades ago. How did they "copy" and "perfect" goods, how did they enter the market or in much more proper term; "invade", how did they win the "favor" from each country's regulator, etc, and so on, and so on. Japanese invent that modus operandi, again, mind you.
Main big difference is only coming from cultural side, Japanese, despite their flaws if any, they know SHAME, they fight for HONOR, and they still have PRINCIPLES, ETHICS, MORALS.

lol are you kidding me? China is the big bully. I have many friends that worked in China that had their businesses stolen by their Chinese "partner". By law they needed a Chinese partner to operate in China, and then the Chinese partner just took over the business. It happened to a German friend, a Canadian, an American, 2 Brits, and a Frenchman. It's ridiculous! I also taught English in China and the amount of cheating was just astounding. It's ingrained in the culture that cheating is "ok". It's their perspective that cheating and copying someone is also "work", so there's nothing wrong with it.

I absolutely appreciate the fact that some people are able to completely ignore and/or be ignorant of a country's agenda of evil and praise them as if they were saviors of the world. Hopefully all liberals, Democrats, and equally delusional individuals will experience China's kindness someday.
