Chinese memory maker CXMT's output has grown from 40,000 to 720,000 wafers in a few years, and it's closing in on Micron

CFCs originally leaked from ground-level refrigeration units ... yet are widely dispersed through the atmosphere, including 30+ miles up into the high stratosphere. There's no risk that atmospheric CO2 will settle in lungs and cause any health issue.

uh, okay. Didn't claim it would. All gases widely disperse in the atmosphere, light and dense. Huffing pure CFC's isn't the same as breathing air.
 
China will thank the US for helping their tech companies to grow rapidly. As I mentioned before, by the time the likes of Micron, SK hynix and Samsung comes back to the retail market, they will find a very different market that is flooded with Chinese alternatives. I think they probably see this problem brewing and catching up with them in their "rear view mirror" and desperate to fan the AI hype to keep their clients funded and can continue buying from them.
They might also have some unpaid billions from failed data centres. The memory cartel left the back door open... and they will be in big trouble
 
It's pretty effin hilarious that western capitalism and market competition is kept alive by a communist regime.
Anyone who believes that "capitalism" encompasses an authoritarian regime using profits from slave labor to subsidize firms using stolen tech to destroy competition needs an education on what the term actually means.

Both the US and China have government stakes in the tech sector. One is called Communism, and the other is called Capitalism. As for 'brutal authoritarian regimes'...there are many more people killed by law enforcement in the US, than in China. There are also many more people in US prisons than in China, despite China having a vastly larger population. So who is 'authoritarian' here?

Does the US keep several million of its own citizens in slave-labor genocide camps? (The UN's words, not mine). Does the US employ thousands of agents to steal Chinese IP, as does China against the West? (at one point in 2024, over 50% of all industrial espionage cases the FBI had open were linked to China). Does the US employ TWO MILLION people to work full-time censoring what its citizens can see on the Internet?

As for "government stakes", the US just recently gave Micron a one-time $6.1B grant out of their total $200B investment in US manufacturing. Prior to that, US support was zero. Meanwhile CXMT is directly owned 37% by CCP entities, and receives up to 80% of its total funding (as well as illicit IP transfers from Western firms) from the Chinese government.

Was that a joke? China doesn't imprison those who commit serious offenses: they execute them outright, usually in a matter of days. China executes more people than all the rest of the world combined -- and not just for murder, but for fraud, corruption, and political dissent. China even executes members of the Falun Gong religion, and harvests their organs for resale:



Comparing the two governments as equally "authoritarian" is incredibly naive. There are protests near-daily in DC. Try that in Tiananmen Square, and they'll roll a tank over you, then come arrest your family for raising a dissident.
 
I wonder if this means CXMT is catching up, or has Micron cut their supply. It wouldn't surprise me if Micron cut supply to the consumer market since they have colluded in the past to price fix memory, however Micron didn't get punished in the last lawsuit.
Though CXMT increasing output is what the market needs, the big 3 memory makers deserve to lose out to Chinese manufacturers while they're ignoring the consumer market to keep the AI bubble inflated.

Been longer ago than that, but the detail is accurate otherwise. Starting ramping aggressively around november 2025.

I will be kicking my own arse around the block for years for not pulling the trigger on a new build a year ago. Essentially impossible now, and predictions are that will hold true at least three more years. I could weep.

I was forced into a new build a few months back; had to stick to just 32GB because of cost, but was thankfully able to reuse my two SSDs to drive down the build cost.

But yeah: At this point you buckle down and wait. It's not like anything is coming down in either CPU or GPU land that really necessitates an upgrade either.

True, although aging of hardware is a concern, primarily the motherboard with all its capacitors. I ran overclocked for quite a proportion of its five years in existence so far; no more. My PSU is twelve years old, but I've done deep dive analysis of its output and it's as clean as the day it was 'born' (under extreme load, no less). Nevertheless, I'm planning on buying a new one to have on hand, just in case.
 
And possibly never again regaining their former glory because consumers find the cheaper alternatives quite acceptable.
Meanwhile, other firms won't lower their prices because they care too much about their margins (read: Stock price); its far easier to complain about "unfair overseas competition" then it is to actually compete.

Got a 2016 PC (X99-A, i7 5820k, 32GB DDR4, GTX1080...) and crossing my fingers for it to hold as long as possible !
