COM A connector?

I bought a really cool socket 1155 Gigabyte Motherboard with a dual core Celeron (Intel) Cpu, DDR 3, and it was obviously built by an "enthusiast", as there are several types of bolts or screws grounding the M'b'd. After grounding it properly I noticed what looks like pins set for a USB plug labeled, "COMA". I've learned just now, it's COM A, and is/was for modems or communications devices. Can I plug my card reader into this recepticle?

The COM A is for RS232 connections, like a modem. The connector is called a DB9
