Solved Computer running slow, slow to connect to internet.

Your computer is clean

1. This step will remove all cleaning tools we used, it'll reset restore points (so you won't get reinfected by accidentally using some older restore point) and it'll make some other minor adjustments...
This is a very crucial step so make sure you don't skip it.
Download
51a5ce45263de-delfix.png
DelFix by Xplode to your desktop. Delfix will delete all the used tools and logfiles.

Double-click Delfix.exe to start the tool.
Make sure the following items are checked:
  • Activate UAC (optional; some users prefer to keep it off)
  • Remove disinfection tools
  • Create registry backup
  • Purge System Restore
  • Reset system settings
Now click "Run" and wait patiently.
Once finished a logfile will be created. You don't have to attach it to your next reply.

2. Make sure Windows Updates are current.

3. If any trojans, rootkits or bootkits were listed among your infection(s), make sure, you change all of your on-line important passwords (bank account(s), secured web sites, etc.) immediately!

4. Check if your browser plugins are up to date.
Firefox - https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
other browsers: https://browsercheck.qualys.com/ (click on "Scan without installing plugin" and then on "Scan now")

5. Run Malwarebytes "Quick scan" once in a while to assure safety of your computer.

6. Run Temporary File Cleaner (TFC), AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal Tool (JRT) weekly (you need to redownload these tools since they were removed by DelFix).

7. (optional) If you want to keep all your programs up to date, download and install FileHippo Update Checker.
The Update Checker will scan your computer for installed software, check the versions and then send this information to FileHippo.com to see if there are any newer releases.

8. When installing\updating ANY program, make sure you always select "Custom " installation, so you can UN-check any possible "drive-by-install" (foistware), like toolbars etc., which may try to install along with the legitimate program. Do NOT click "Next" button without looking at any given page.

10. Please, let me know, how your computer is doing.

Ok....so here is the update:

1.) Downloaded DelFix.
2.) Re-downloaded TFC, AdwCleaner, JRT. Ran JRT and it produced a log with two deletions. One was a file and the other was registry.
3.) My computer is running smoother than before (thanks!), however I'm still having connection issues. At the time of writing this I'm using public wifi at a Library. Before I had to restart my computer, I could not log on to the internet. It gave me a yellow caution sign at the wifi icon. Wasn't doing that before. After I restarted it connected however the issue of slow connectivity is still happening.

I'm being redirected to msfconnecttest.com/redirect and in some cases it takes up to 5 mins before I can actually connect to the internet....public or private. You mention I may have network issues. Opening a thread in the Windows section will remedy that?

Yes. Here we only check if your computer is clean.
Which browser is getting redirected?

Reset Chrome...
Click on "Customize and control Google Chrome":

Click "Reset browser settings" button.
Restart Chrome.

If the above didn't help....

Reinstall Chrome...

If you want to save your passwords as well see here: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-backup-saved-passwords-in-google-chrome-browser/
  • Close all Chrome windows and tabs.
  • Go to the Start menu > Control Panel. (Windows 8 users: Learn how to access the Control Panel)
  • Click Programs and Features.
  • Double-click Google Chrome.
  • Click Uninstall from the confirmation dialog. Delete your user profile information, like your browser preferences, bookmarks, and history, by selecting the "Also delete your browsing data" checkbox.
Install fresh copy.

Ok I did that (option 1). Don't know if it did anything. Laptop is moving quicker than before. I will open up a post in Windows for my network issues. Thanks again Broni!

Yeah...the mfsconnecttest.com/redirect is still happening. Since I travel alot...I use a lot of wifi. Most of it is unsecured. I have to restart my computer to actually log on to the wifi now. Doesn't happen with my home internet however. Is there a way to fix that without doing step 2 of the Chrome option?

Ok...so reinstalled and tired on different wifi connections. It seems to be running smoother and I'm able to connect just like I did when I bought this laptop. The mfsconnectest is still happening however, doing some research, found out that its a Windows 10 thing and it actually doesn't redirect me to anything. I think one of the extensions I had on my browser was causing an issue of connectivity, whenever I needed to confirm sign up to wifi (EX. in DD when you use their wifi, you have to agree to sign up). The extension is no longer installed

All issues have been resolved. Broni...I thank you. This is the 4th computer/laptop in the last 7 years you help me fix.
I'm sure I will be back soon though, lol. Many thanks again!
