Computer TV connection not working

Hi all,
I am trying to connect my Dell laptop to my flat screen TV to play movies. I am using the S video cable port. I am able to get the desktop screen backgroud to show on the TV but nothing else. Not even the desktop icons. I am also able to change the background on the screen and Tv. How do I get the movies to play on the TV screen?

Get into the video settings and see if you can correct things from there
