Connection problems Toshiba Satellite L455 s5045

I have a Toshiba Satellite L455 It has Windows 7 on it and I have been having some connection issues. I at one point had no problems accessing the internet, nor downloading and installing programs, but now I can download programs but not install them because it states I do not have an internet connection. Which apparently I do, I am on here on with the laptop that says I don't have internet connection. This is a wireless connection tapped into my parents broadband connection. Could someone please tell me how to correct this issue because as of now i can not even place any anti virus software because I can not install it.

Hook the laptop up "wired" by using a network cable to your parents broadband connection and see if the laptop behaves normally this way
