Core i7-7700K & Core i5-7600K Review: Kaby Lake is boring on the desktop

Cons: No reason for Skylake owners to upgrade.

The same applies to owners of Z97 with I7 4790k.. No reason to upgrade to Skylake and Shabbylake. lol

I'm not surprised with poor results at all and that's expected..just look at GPU's and SSD's Motherboards, you can hardly call it upgrade. Just a waste of money!

The Pentiums get Hyper-Threading and the i7-7660U can turbo to 4Ghz and has a TDP of just 15 watts. Kaby Lake is not all boring.

Well..my I7 4790 overclocked to 4.8 GHz..so your Kaby Lake is really boring.

Ok so I am building my gaming rig this year and the first item will be GTX1080ti, next is the CPU.

So thinking I will get i7 6800K Broadwell-E, I don't have bags of money and my rigs usually last me 5 years at least.. I think 6800k is good value for money..

tks
Didn't you see the gaming benchmarks? The i5 provides nearly identical performance to the i7 at nearly half the price of the i7 6800k, except on Overwatch- but both chips were over the 200 fps mark anyway. Unless you're planning to do other things like video editing, the i7 is a waste of money for gaming. Take the $200+ savings with an i5 and put that money toward something else.

Why no high end improvements though?
If you're assuming that part can reach those 4 GHz easily, you're wrong. It will be for scenarios with minimum HSIO connected, integer workloads, and no use of IGP. If you're thinking gaming: more games are demanding more cores/threads and don't benefit just from frequency. And don't be deceived, those Pentiums are just Core i3s with either faulty AVX unit or using the AVX 2.0 extension skyrocket the power consumption.
Now Pentiums are as fast as what AMD currently has to offer (i3 6100 beats the FX in many benchmarks.) Zin APU's are still a long way out. Intel's 10nm lineup will be their competition. It will be interesting to see how AMD reacts to this.
The i7-7660U is not going to be a gaming CPU. It has Iris and will be in only high end laptops and maybe a NUK, high end gamming laptops will get the 7700HQ.
Well..my I7 4790 overclocked to 4.8 GHz..so your Kaby Lake is really boring.
I guess the 7700k would be better labeled Skylake refresh 6790K. It's just another speed bin with video decode updates. It looks like the real next gen is going to be on 10nm. Probably with more cores.

This is like an insult to AMD. What is the point of releasing it in the first place? Couldn't they just wait and release something much better in response to AMD when they catch up?

Psychological marketing warfare on the ignorant....it's a bigger number, it must be better!
