Inactive Corrupt file errors & computer reboots about every 15 minutes without warning

The computer went into regular mode today when I turned it on. Went straight to it no startup repair or anything...

I ended up not being able to get to normal mode ever again so I figured out how to back up my C:drive by using robocopy via Command prompt from the System Recovery Tools to an external hard drive that I bought Saturday. I then did a reformat on my computer and then did a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit. So now its like having a brand new machine. I wish I would have thought more about backing up drivers because there are things that are no longer functioning on my all in one computer now that I did this (buttons on the monitor that would turn the sound up and down and eject the dvd/cd's just to name one of many things) Would you recommend me scanning the external hard drive for viruses since I copied everything off the corrupt system or should I be ok? Last thing I want to do is move items from external hard drive onto the computer now that I have wiped it and started from scratch. Also what are your thoughts on Total Defense Security for an antivirus?

I don't have any preferences for AV programs.
Whatever works for you.

Yes, definitely scan all external sources with freshly updated AV program.

Good luck and thank you for update :)
