I have the solution for you
i have the same problem and i started to search on the internet
for th solution and i didnt find any,
so i tried to open the photo with the "Paint" Program
it gives me an access denied msg, so its a security reason
but u can rename, delete, the photos so u have permission to access them
but the problem were in the Ownership.

so go to the folder which contains pics and follow these steps :
1- right click >> Properties
2- go to Security tab
3- Click on Advanced
4- go to Owner tab
5- Click on ur username then select the " Replace owner on ...." check box
6- click ok
7- right click >> refresh

then u'll be accessing ur photos again

try it and tell me

this worked! thank you so much, i can now access the pictures and preview them. for those of you who can't find the security tab when you click properties, you have to be in safe mode (if your using windows xp home edition).

to get in safe mode restart your computer and when it says "please select the operating system to start" press F8 and use the arrow keys to go to Safe Mode and press enter. windows then should start up

access denied

Well this worked for me too many times.
This time though I have no permission to access them even if I'm using the administration username (that usually has all permissions on any file in the network I'm working on)
It doesn't allow me to add users nor to change ownership...

Any Ideas?

What if you try to force permission and ownership form the folder containing your files?

Upper one level I mean...

Photoshop works

Photoshop works. I was able to open the Corrupted JPGs with Photoshop.

first I used HDD Hex Editor to check the header and it has an entry for photoshop.
So I will recommend to use Hex Editor to find out the software used to create the image.

Solution for Windows XP

Guys
go to the folder that have problem, click right button and choose Sharing and Security. Select the frame Network sharing and security, mark share this folder on the network, press apply button and OK.

I have done this way and now everything is working fine....

but you should login windows with administrator rights for this.

1- right click (on the folder which contains the files with problem)>> Properties
2- go to Security tab
3- Click on Add
4- Click on Advance
5- Click on Find Now
6- Select Administrators
7- Click on OK
8- Click on OK
9- Click on Full Control
10-Click Apply
11-Click OK

now refresh and try to open the jpeg or bmp files.

in my case it worked.

If you have XP Pro you have to disable simple file sharing in folder options, for this [Open any folder go tool menu > folder options> view>uncheck the last option in the list "use simple file sharing(recommended)"] to see the security tab. If you are using XP Home, then you need to boot into safe mode to access the security tab

Hi there,

Unfortunately I have Windows Vista Ultimate on my laptop. How does it work there? Any idea?

Any help is very appreciated!

I know i'm late to this, hoping something might have come up.
I am running Windows XP pro. don't have AOL, i've tried the DLL fix, it didn't work
tried in photoshop, ifranview and a few others, none of them can open it.
Tried renaming from jpg to jpeg, and then back to jpg, no help.
tried several recovery programs (when i try and recover the file, it just comes back and says the same thing.) "no preview available" in most programs, Photoshop says "invalid jpeg marker type"
They haven't been emailed to me, were on a XD card, then put on my computer, have been on my computer for some time now, and just over time, some of them have been getting corrupted (or so it seems).
oh.. and i forgot to mention, i tried ERD commander, love that program, it didn't help either.

i've uploaded the file, incase anyone would like to take a dabble with things they've tried that has worked in the past. if anyone can help, i would sooo be in your debt.

Hi Kenny

Your picture looks like a Linux GZ archived file, that has likely been corrupted from opening in a text viewer or something
With your experience if you can't open it, no one can.

Oh and next time use a better file server

none of them have actually ever been on a linux machine, since the date i took the pictures, they've been sitting on my Win XP Pro machine. could you you tell linux GZ? i'm familiar with linux (moderately)

An archived linux file, the file extension for gzip files (GNU zip, an open source file compression program)

After checking the file with my Resource Viewer and WinHex I found that it seemed to have been originally a gzip file, that now seems to be corrupted.

Now this could have been just the way in which your "XD card" had stored them (on your camera?) or from whichever program (or hardware) that was used to store them originally.

My personal thoughts are: unrecoverable :(

how to download
