Dell Inspiron 9800

I just bought a dell Inspiron 9800 that was built in 2004, for 40 bucks. I tried to use it and when I got to the user screen to select a user that that was the owners , it worked then it automatically signed me out, I have no idea on what to do with out going to someone and pay for them to do it , I would like to know what I can do to fix it, I wanted to do a system restore, let me know my options I kept pressing f8 and it gave me options just want to play it safe on what to do

F2 or F11 will normally bring up the System Recovery Console. F8 brings up the OS menu for other available boot options.
