DHCP Woes

Before I went away on holiday everything on the computer was working perfectly I come back and it can no longer connect to the Internet. I get the message that I am now connected to an unidentified network and there is no Internet available. Other devices like my mobile can connect to BT home hub router just fine.

I've restarted computer, modem and I've reset the modem multiple times. Disabled the connection, re-enable the connection, run a diagnostic. I'm now trying to release and renew the IP address.

I can release it, but when I go to renew I get "an error has occurred while renewing interface ethernet unable to contact your DHCP server request has timed out". I have now reached the limit of my technical knowledge.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Let's see if you can access DHCP:

download

find your system's ip address AND the MAC address of that adapter
  • ipconfig /all
  • look for the PHYSICAL Address under the Local Area Connection

install & run DCHPEXLORER

from the list of adaptors, select the MAC that matches your adapter's MAC

send DHCP Request and wait for the reply

should look like:
