DirectX 9.0c compatible trouble, please help

thx dafriz... but actually i've already tried downloading directx fm microsofts website, its da same. i've oso downloaded from some other site, still da same. i've even lost it n tried 2 download some fancy schmancy version of directx 9.0c with stuff i dun even understand, n it didn't work either. funny thing is, i played csi miami which required directx 9.0b, n it installed fine. (it came from the cd.) im juz so frustrated...

hey ice princess i just remembered something

Oh hold on girl.... i just realized 2 of my friends have the same card as u... and i just remembered that when one of my friends installed drivers for his card it wasnt installed correctly or something and now when he plays games he can see through walls... (dont ask we are totally stumped by how this happend) the only problem is that his comp technically cant play any directx9.0c game bcuz his comp is sort of low end with a medium end card in it..... but ill fool around with his comp for a day or 2 and see if i can find a directx9.0c game that he can play and see if he has any problem bcuz maybe its the driver of the card that is messed up and not the drivers for directx..
(its a thought) sry for not posting sooner than u like but i dont check my other email as much bcuz its my forum/help email and i only recieve one per week... but ill check everyday to try and c if i can help u faster.
and if u havent alrdy please post your comp specs so i can see if something may be a miss there.

if u dont know how go to startmenu, run, dxdiag and post the information it gives ill post to ya later and hopefully ill have an answer to u

ice p, Is that file from your system? If it is then you are running an FX5200 PCI card with 128MBs of memory, and the latest 71.84 drivers. You shouldn't be having a problem using DX9c with that card. I'm not familiar with the Sims game, but usually a game that requires a particular version of DX will include it in the installation. I would try to go back to the point where you installed the Sims, in System restore and restore to the earlier time.That will remove Sims and DX 9c if it was first installed then. Then try to reinstall the game and the DX 9c again.

Dafriz. Using capital letters is a symbolic way of yelling at someone. If you have a beef with Mictlantecuhtli then click on his name and rant at him through the onboard forum messaging system. Going off on someone, in the middle of a thread is not cool. Regardless of the reason. Also go to one of your friends with the Vanta card. Download Everest Home Edition at www.lavalys.com When it opens hit display. Then hit GPU. Scroll down and you will see an entry for DirectX hardware support. If the person is running a Vanta card it will list hardware support as DX v7.0. The fact of the matter is that regardless of whether the operating system can load DX 9.0 isn't necessarily indicitive or the card being able to utilize it. And a lot of people with older cards experience problems when they do try to run 9.0 on an unsupported card, although that isn't always the case. So think before you rant. It doesn't matter how old the article is if the info is still valid.

ok sry for ranting at him in thread... but i didnt know i could do it personally.. and btw... i looked up the vanta card and i did find a page where it did say it was compatible with directx 9 so plz dont say that it is an unsupported card bcuz it does support directx 9 cuz invidia said so.. if it doesnt then someone tell invidia to stop lying and tell god to explain why it works on my friends comp cuz he must have taken the time to make his vanta card holy or something for working.... (plz note the sarcasm) .... plus the only reason i say the info is out of date is bcuz it is... it still counts as dx7.0 compatible but it has support of 8.0 and 9.0 which makes the info out of date and it will make it misleading to other ppl who read this thread......

edit: Princess... i havent solved ur main problem but im gonna post u a very common problem with pci cards right now so here ya go

When you buy a new Graphics Card the manufacturer sets the PCI Latency value to a high number.(248 approx.)
After reducing this to the 64 (all other devices are either 0 or 32) i saw substatinally better performance on all accounts. I may even try 32 to see if i see anything else.
It was a shame to think that i would have bought another hardware when manufacturers don't make this part clear. And the ability to give a device a less dramatic PCI Latency value. Therefore my CPU was there spending more time attending to my graphics card than the rest of my system (including HDD access etc.)

edit again.. sigh: Ummm... i guess try going to 16 bit color instead of 32 bit bcuz i know i have some games that are messed up with my vid card that wont let me play in 32 but they will in 16bit and possibly dx9.0c will work then?? (hates when he has to grasp at straws to solve a problem) also it is saying u only have 9.0b.. why it isnt going to c.. i havent figured out i have not found any problems posted other than what u have said my guess install it from the sims cd and if theres any errors post them... (be proud u have a very unique problem.. cuz that makes u one very interesting individual)

ice princess. Before you give up, listen carefully. The 7.1.8.4 drivers are not the optimum drivers for an FX series card. As DX can't be uninstalled once you have installed it, try this. Do an inplace upgrade, also called a repair install. This will not cause you to lose any data. However it will reset the Dx to the one that came with your OS CD. Before you do it uninstall SIMS one more time. The repair install will also cause the OS to revert back to how it was originally. In otherwords once you do it you will also have to reinstall all the Windows Updates. You will also have to reinstall the MOBO chipset drivers. Go to nVidias site and download the Forceware 66.93 drivers from the archives. There is a link on the left side of the drivers page. Once you have done all that and installed DX9.0c, then reinstall the SIMS. When it asks you if you want to install DX with the game say no. Here is a link for instructions on how to do the repair install. Read it and make sure you understand what it does so you can be comfortable with the idea that none of your data will get lost. There is always that possibility that it will so backup your data, at least anything you can't afford to lose, or copy it to another hard drive. I have done this many many times and I have never lost data, but it is a computer and they do get a mind of their own at times <g> IMPORTANT! USE METHOD #2. You will need your XP CD

princess im sry to say it but hes got the right idea... cuz it just sounds like it is a software issue not a hardware issue.... do what he says cuz that should be the best way to do it... (unless u want to format ur harddrive and start reinstalling everything)

oh man... nothing works... i tried d forceware 66.93 drivers n directx still wont install... n anyway i think reformatting isnt going to help because some time ago my pc went nuts and my dad had to reformat it and i still cant install directx anyway... im so pissed at my computer right now... any1?? please?? help??

Interesting machine you've got there, ice_princess026. Windows XP SP2 comes with DirectX 9.0c, as far as I know, but that DxDiag.txt output shows most of the files being 8.1.

Try DirectX9 uninstaller, and reinstall 9.0c after that.

Send the DxDiag.txt file again after that.

There is a way to fool the computer to think it has 9.0c (a simple registry edit), but I'm not sure if it would help in this case, as many required DirectX files are simply too old.

um... are u sure uninstalling directx will work? cos i noe xp sp2 is supposed to come with 9.0c, but when i run dxdiag it shows up as 8.1b... and i did try uninstalling directx before, just not with the program u suggested, and my computer went bonkers and i had to reformat it... i'm just making sure cos i'm a bit scared of it now...

Someone help me please

Will someone please help me with my sims 2 trouble? I've been trying to get my game working for ages, I LOST COUNT OF HOW MANY MONTHS!!!My sims was working, but my dad needed to rebuild the harddrive because of viruses once, and after that the sims didn't work. Well then he crashed the computer again and afterthat it worked, then he once again rebuilt the hard drive(in october I might add) and since then it hasn't worked. I have no clue what the problem is.I've been to all different help forums, and this one seemed best. I think I might have mmany things wrong with my computer that might screw up the game. I have the all to common problem of the stupid,"FAILED TO FIND ANY DIRECTX 9.0c COMPATIBLE GRAPHICS ADAPTERS IN THIS SYSTEM, AND BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!" While cruising this forum page I saw a post that said about the memory not being set to 32, well mine is also like that. I think the poster was Nataya. Also,My directX 3d thing and apg acceleration things are not available for some reason, and I think that could be the problem. Well i've tried installing new directx millions of times and of course it didn't work. I have been to countless help/download websites and none of them work. I want to beat my computer with a studded bat. Won't somebody help me before my computer becomes oatmeal. :hotbounce

It seems that there are 2 seperate issues on this thread seeing as im not sure who here is the acutal techy i thought id point that out in that my issue with sims 2 is failed to intialize Direct3d. Please make sure directx 9.0c has been installed on this system.
Vid card radeon9550
mem 1gig
Cpu Ath64 3000
Hd 400gigs 2x200
Os winxp pro with sp2
i know my way around a computer all drives are up to date
9.0c is installed
and direct3d works fine other then with this game
So whos got any ideas?

Ummm well welcome guys... ummm first guy plz post ur comp specs via dxdiag (plz read above if u dont know how to do that) and guy with the direct3d problem... idk but if the game works for u then does it really matter?? if it does then give me some more info if u can think of any...

as to iceprincess issue is sp2 on your xp disk or did you have to use the upgrade?
If sp2 is on your xp disk reboot your system with disk in cdrom then select install and repair (noy the repair console)when you see repair console chose the other option then next screen will give you an option to install somewhere else or repair the xcisting and dx9.0c will be reinstalled for you you wont lose anything off your machine but you will have to reupdate windows i must confess im not sure if the sp2 download will alow the same kind of recovery but i have a feeling if youve use sp2 upgrade your running in to and issue of dx9 not installing at all if youve tryd to install dx9 and it say it installed but took like a sec or less of run into this problem to when goofen around tryn to get simz to work and as of yet found no solutions to this issue so as i said in my last post and with this one ive found there to be 3 different issue
1.dx not recognizing drivers
2.sims not intitilizing direct3d
3.9.0c lieing about installing
though this may confuse things a bit i hope someones found some solutions to some of them witch may help to narrow down the prob
Oh and no the game dosnt work for me i try to start it and after the sims2 splash screen i get the error direct3d failed to initilize then poof it closes

man... sorry 2 say this.... but i already tried repairing my windows b4, n it sure didn't work... my sp2 came with d cd, but 4 god knows wat reason, even when i reformatted d computer once, n xp was newly installed with no garbage, d directx version was showed as 8.1... messed up, huh? *sigh* i'm juz about giving up on the sims 2 now...

Calling all with problems running sims2! Everyone seems to be having the same problem, however you may not need to buy a new graphics card. Please correct me if i am wrong but the error message that came up when i was installing sims2 for a friend told me that the graphics adapters needed the latest drivers. Instead of getting a new graphics card try:

start menu select "run" from there type in dxdiag then press "ok" when you have done this a box should appear saying directx diagnostics if you the select the "display" tab you should be able to find out what make of card you have.

when you have done this try the site of the maufaturers that made your card. You may well find that they tell you about the latest updates and how to get them.

hmmm yes thats all well and good but what do you do when you can't run the driver update?!? thats the problem im having. its the correct driver update because i have checked it several times on the everest home edition thing i downloaded because it was recommended. i have intergrated prosavage8 DDR. the error message i get is: C:\WINDOWS|SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft Windows applications. choose 'close' to terminate the application.

The reason the game doesn't work is because there is something missing that the game requires to run. Direct X needs certain components... all you gotta do is find out what they are-easier said than done I know but unless you know what it is then there isn't really alot you can do! If you run on windows then try a windows update... you never know it may update it for you.

I have the same problem... Only I did install and run it sucessfully. We had to format the computer, forget reason why, and now it won't work.

I've tried a lot of things listed here... the things I can try, anyway. ^^ But it won't work for me.

Anyone got ideas why Sims2 would work then, and not now? Is there something I need to edit or change, or re-install? I've re-installed all the drivers, and I have the latest DirectX which does work for other games.

I'm not sure how to tell you what the graphics driver is, if someone tells me how to find out, I'll add that too.

Ok all let me explain my thing well ive had the sims 2 since chirstmas it is now summer it didnt work because of that box that pops up so ive deicded to go online and see what i can search so i found this forum board so i was reading on page one and a guy name colum said some stuff to try so i tried it and finally my sims 2 worked!!!!! so i can play now but it is so slow it freezes its like its in slow motion its like no fun i want it to be no lag just normal what can i do? i just think this game isnt worth the price, Also colum or anyone else ive also bought Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 the newst one so downlaoded it and i cant play it a box pops up and says : Your graphics harware or drivers do not meet the minimum requirments to run RCT3, This error also has been sent to debug.log so i thought the same stuff colum said would work for this but nope only for sims 2 so colum do you know what i can do to get this to work? colum thanks for ur help with sims 2 but still no use if its so slow and lag but someone please help me
