Disable start up utility?

I am running Windows XP ....is there a simple "Start Up Utility" I can use to disable something called 'Compaq Connections'?
I believe it is slowing down my computer at start up.....can take up to 15 minutes to load.
I tried running msconfig...but when I uncheck Compaq Connections....it throws the system into a different mode.

run->services.msc

then scroll to find a service by that name. if found, then DISABLE and stop it.
