Yes GPU may be the problem, once re fix the graphic card in your system. dust partials many be issues, or else update your graphic drivers according to the required compatible version. if you want the drivers site I may help you....get me back by reply to these post.

I spent yesterday morning grappling with this same problem and finally after a Microsoft Fixit failed to work I took the nVidia 8600 GT video card out of my desktop. There were three blown capacitors (bulging tops) so I've ordered a replacement. The motherboard has onboard graphics so I can continue to use the computer without it constantly blacking out. The computer is never pushed hard so it's not a good advert for the quality of the card.
