The parties swapped belief systems in the 1920s, starting around Taft/Wilson. It's more correct to say "Southern Conservatives were the ones with slaves.".Democrats were the ones with slaves. Most southern states were democratic and strongly pro-slavery.
But that's hard, and actually "doing something" opens you up for criticism and could legitimately put your re-election at risk (in primaries; it's not like the actual "election" would be competitive in any case). So it's better to give the "illusion" you are doing something so there's nothing on your record that can be directly attacked by a potential opponent.Let's face reality, both side have their share of brainless halfwits.
This Senator's bill is a special brand of crazy and absurd. Regulating and criminalizing software because of it's place of original is short sighted, narrow thinking at best. I really wish people would grow up, stop thinking/talking out of their butts and make efforts to improve the world & our part of it in smarter and more meaningful ways.
Ah yes, the magic of defunding essential services, what could possibly go wrong? It's almost like air traffic control, emergency response, and national defense are just optional luxuries. Who needs them, right? If private enterprise can swoop in and handle it all with the efficiency of a 1-star airline, I’m sure everything will run just fine.Didn't GOP already start defunding air traffic controllers in at least 3 different ways . Overturning bipartisan agreements
Yes working for govt can be a gravy train for corps , contractors, consultants
But you do know govt runs essential services - obviously emergency relief to disasters will depend on grovelling to your King and if your State voted red.
careful what you wish for - I'm sure private enterprise will love to employ all your essential workers , your army , navy and defense,, ICE agents , police, health, engineers etc
Yes let's look at countries with few government workers except those in power and their families and wow they look amazing
We have all seen or heard of stupid bosses - what do the IT people of TS do , switch on the computers, and play games - get rid of them - more money for backups, security , complete waste they are making it up FN jobsworths - sack the parasite these IT people . I know how to boot a computer and download a anti-virus company, backup just store it to cheapest cloud provider , just stuff from this week
Since Trump we feel like we are living in communist country, restrictions flying left and right, hundreds of people lost their jobs in less than a month just because "their views didn't align" with Trump's with an additional 20 million federal jobs threaten if they don't "retired", people being sent off to Guantanamo Bay as if they were C.I.A criminals and to top it all off now getting punished for downloading an app???
Heck at this point there's no difference if we live in the U.S, China or Russia.

Sure, IT professionals are totally unnecessary. All they do is sit around playing Solitaire while keeping entire systems functional, patching security vulnerabilities, preventing breaches, and ensuring we don’t lose critical data. I mean, who needs data security when you can just back it all up to the “cheapest cloud” and hope for the best?
Also, love the idea of firing all public health workers and engineers. What could possibly go wrong with bridges, water systems, and disaster response managed by the lowest bidder? And as for defense, just imagine a Kickstarter campaign for national security. "Contribute $10, and we’ll fund one soldier’s helmet!" Great idea, really.
History has shown that countries with tiny governments run super smoothly, provided you don’t mind a few oligarchs running the show while everyone else hopes for basic services. So yes, careful what you wish for, sometimes the “gravy train” of government employment is actually what keeps society from descending into chaos.
I digress, some just can't see the forest for the trees. Its all madness I tell you!
Here's one: In Nassau County NY we had the NICE bus service. It was starved for funding by the GOP led government, and the people running it repeatedly warned they would have to start raising fares and cutting routes if they didn't receive more funding. As soon as someone equates a IT person to a lazy gamer, there is no credibility left in anything they have to say. Like how to say you know nothing about technology and how it works without saying you dont know. We put more hours in than most industries I know of and work weekends more often than not, paged constantly during events including family birthday parties, travel, etc. IT workers are expcted to be ready to solve a problem at any minute of the day regarding any disaster that comes out of nowhere. Its insane someone could say something so blatently based on pure ignorance.
And every time a government service gets privatized in any country in the world, it gets worse and worse. Its a common strategy for politicians to starve systems of money so that folks say its not effective and needs to be privatized because we cant afford it. This is almost exclusively done by giving large government contracts to friends of the politicians who then perform x10 worse than the government ever did.
Examples: The issue with the canadian health care is government funding, not the system. Its done on purpose to pressure them to go private like the USA for profit system. This way their friends can get rich along with themselves. This is well documented. Anyone thinking the private health care system is going to be better for them is an absolute *****. America and Americans are all the proof any sane person needs to see. Hell, America celebrated when a healthcare CEO was assassinated, thats how much we hate our health care. Folks from every political belief unified in their IDGAF response to it. That is a message and statement all by itself.
The UK mail system. Again, was starved out financially and deemed unworkable due to financial constraints so they privatized it and it got x10 worse. Ask any person that lives there.
There are so many examples of this its silly that anyone doesnt even know the history of it happening. Its 2025, there are no excuses for not knowing these things except pure laziness or willful ignorance.
100%. Thanks for another example, I wasnt aware of that one. There is literally *no* examples of any service that gets privatized that ends up better then it was when managed by a centralized authority. In every instance, within a few years, they *always* get worse, because of "profit" and "shareholders".
Agree with the fake democracy. About using at least for the soviets, not so much. All parties in politics are a disease, just a different kind. They serve the ultra wealthy only. In any political system. The problem is people equate "Democracy" to "Having Elections". The fact 95% of those elections are designed to be non-competitive doesn't concern them. Which is how we got to our current state of affairs, since the end result was always going to be more radical candidates.
Hell, at least the Soviets mandated you had to win 50% of the eligible voting population to take office (something which people used strategically to get particularly bad people removed from office by simply not voting).
Yeah, that’s unfortunately how it usually goes. Privatization is often sold as a way to improve efficiency and cut costs, but what it really does is shift the focus from public service to profit margins. Once shareholders and executives enter the picture, the priority isn’t about maintaining affordable, reliable service, it’s about squeezing out revenue wherever they can. Here's one: In Nassau County NY we had the NICE bus service. It was starved for funding by the GOP led government, and the people running it repeatedly warned they would have to start raising fares and cutting routes if they didn't receive more funding.
Eventually, the GOP decided the only way to *save* the service was to privatize it. One week later: Fares were raised by 15% and a number of routes were cut.
