Drive will not read audio CD's

i have a green machine model c6415. i had no problems until recently. i was burning a audio cd on nero when it quit about 80% in the process. since then my drive will not read or acknowledge audio or data cd,s. it will play dvd,s with no problem. with all i've read on this forum i think the drive is shot. my problem is that i have'nt a clue for a replacment. the current model drive is, nec dvd-rwnd-3540a. after all that i've read on this forum i'd rather go with some other unit. but which one? please advise. thanks

Defective optical drive. Replace. There is no use trying to fix it.

Pioneer is very good, and Plextor is extremely reliable. I like any of these: LG, Samsung, LiteOn, Pioneer, Plextor.
We find too many problems with Sony, Sony NEC, HP, Acer, Asus, HLDS, and Memorex... they fail too soon.

Keep us up to date on that Pioneer. I think it is excellent... one of the better units one can buy online.
What did you have to pay for it?
