Ok cpc2004...thanks anyway...i solve the problem.
It was a problem related whith Nvidia network management, a pack that comes whith the board A8n-sli Deluxe and Premium.

This is my first post here, so I apologize if I miss anything obvious.

I'm having the same trouble as the original author, as well as the other folks in the thread. Blue screen of death, and "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". What's particularly strange is that it initially happened once, then on restart my computer was extremely sluggish, with 'system' oscillating in its resource consumption in the task manager from 2 to 99% of CPU taken up. Eventually, it crashes again, and then BSOD's anew, and it repeats.

Now my computer was working fine this morning, with no difficulties, until it crashed, and now this continues to occur. I've attached 5 minidumps, which hopefully will assist in diagnosing the problems. Let me know if I should provide any other information. Thank you in advance, anyone who has advice.

Edit: I think I have some idea of what the problem may be. Upon disconnecting two of my three hard drives, the two older drives, the problem vanished. And while both drives appeared with associated and correct drive letters, one of them did not show any attributes, such as disk space. So possibly I have a hard drive failure, although why it would occur so suddenly I don't really understand.

Hello again cpc2004, I thought I'd check back with some answers and so on.
I tried everything I could do without spending money on new hardware but I couldn't see any way to make my problems go away on that front.

So I tried some other approaches;
I read somewhere about someone reducing the speed of his ram to stabilize his system, that worked like a charm.

Also I looked up that nVidia Firewall thingey, couldn't really access it though,
since someone along my chipset installation the networking-utility didn't want to install, so I couldn't do anything about that.

I still have random program crashes but I think a clean install of windows will solve that,
due to my SP2-installation getting interrupted by BSOD and screwing up everything.
Also updated my bios and all other drivers, running my RAM at 333 instead of 400 is a fair trade to get my computer working.

Thanks again for your help cpc2004, keep it up.

Hi Velius,

The culprit is NVTcp.sys (ie firewall). De-install NVTcp.sys and install another firewalll.

same problem once again.

cpc2004,
You seem to be quite amazing at figuring out this little blue screen problem.
I have been having this problem for about 6 months and manage to tweak it just enough for it to go away only to return. Now its back and I get the DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL blue screen as well as other hardware related ones without titles. I have an ASUS k8n motherboard, with 3 SATA harddrives. Sometimes they well seek and lock up my comp. I recently discovered that if I unplug the 2 storage drives it will quit. But eventually it will blue screen.

The only Error log in event viewer is this
Event 7000
The OrangeWare USB Enhanced Host Controller Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Can you help me out? I’m about ready to go mac :). Thanks for your time and if there’s any other info you need I'll get it.

Hi pg,

From your minidump, I find memory corruption and this is symptom of faulty ram.

CHKIMG_EXTENSION: !chkimg -lo 50 -d !nt
8058b1f9-8058b200 8 bytes - nt!NtQuerySystemInformation+5
[ 68 e0 36 50 80 e8 1e 6b:51 8b cb 2b cb 49 8b 09 ]
8 errors : !nt (8058b1f9-8058b200)

MODULE_NAME: memory_corruption
IMAGE_NAME: memory_corruption
FOLLOWUP_NAME: memory_corruption
DEBUG_FLR_IMAGE_TIMESTAMP: 0
MEMORY_CORRUPTOR: LARGE
FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: MEMORY_CORRUPTION_LARGE
BUCKET_ID: MEMORY_CORRUPTION_LARGE

Suggestion
1. Reseat the memory stick to another memory slot
2. Downclock the ram
3. Clean the inside the computer case
4. Make sure that the ram is compatible to the motherboard
If it still crashes, diagnostic which memory stick is faulty
1. Take out one memory stick. If windows does not crash, the removed memory stick is faulty.
2. If you have only one memory stick, replace the ram

cpc2004,
Thanks a million! A cleaning is defiantly in order. I know the ram is compatible to the motherboard so I will try all your other suggestions. Also just got another blue screen PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. Think that has anything to do with the ram or is that another story? Also does this ram problem have anything to do with my harddrives seeking?

Thanks again!
have a good one!

Ok, i skimmed the previous problems and answers but eventually got lost in all the errors and such, so i'm just gonna tell you my problem. Hope u'll forgive me. :)

Same error (driver_irql_not_less_or_equal) but it only comes up when i use my modem to connect to the internet. I tried finding a new driver but I can't, the box said "x-data" and i know it had a rockwell chipset but that's all i remember about it. I just wanna make sure that it's the damned modem that's causing it, i tested my RAM but it came up ok in all the tests (i even used three separate programs for testing it), and, as i said, it only comes up when i'm using the modem, now and then. So does anyone have any idea as for what I should do?

Thank you.

Unfortunately no, I use Outpost Firewall and NOD32 Antivirus. I had both of them on Broadband internet and it didn't show me anything like this once. So i doubt it's any of the software, except ofc for the modem drivers... which i hadn't used up until now.

Help me Jeebus

Well this looks like the place to get help.

My computer has from time to time decided to reboot. It was a couple of times a week but now the situation is way worse. Now its a couple of times a day. Especially while playing World of Warcraft.

I recently got a new Radeon 9800SE that I bought in the purpose to softmod but as my PSU is barely enough to handle the unmodded version I had to wait until I got a new one.

Now almost every crash I get seem to be memory related but no analysis of memory seem to support that evidence and a new PSU didnt solve it either.

Thought maybe you could take a look at my minidumps aswell.

Can you tell me what's wrong with this?

Hi everyone. I've been reading thorught this thread, and I hope you may help me. I'm having the same problem that everyone else here, as well as the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA one. This has happened since I deleted some spyware and viruses from the laptop, and it happens when I try to run programs like SpyBot and the online antivirus from TrendMicro. But since it's not my machine, I really cannot tell if it has happened for a while, or only after I deleted said viruses. Here is the last of the 1001 errors in the Event Viewer:

I apologise for any mispelling and for the crappy translation :p

BTW: I already tested the RAM and it didn't seem to be failing, but I cannot be sure.

EDIT: I forgot this: the laptop is a Toshiba with Processor is a PIII at 1.1 GHz and 240 RAM :p, and sometimes, for no reason, it will shut down. No blue screen, no closing windows, no failure message, the screen just goes black and the bugger shuts down for good. I power it up again, and it loads windows as if nothing had happened, it doesn't seems to notice, or create an error log. I'm getting pretty mad with this laptop by now, so please, help me out. *goes looking for some dynamite sticks :stickout: :unch: *

Here are the minidumps I found in the minidump folder:

As far as I know this can happen because of multiple reasons. Try updating your drivers first. Antivirus/Firewall sw can also cause this (e.g. Protector Plus and Kerio)...

The drivers are updated as far as I can tell. The network device's driver is from 2001, but I was unable to find one for that specific device that was newer, however, I has no access to the laptop right now, I guess I'll have to check early tomorrow.

The laptop has no firewall.................. well, it has Norton System Works, it includes a FW? Because when I run the antivirus from Norton, the laptop crashes. Hmmmmmm........ I really need to check that laptop tomorrow. *sigh*

Hi cpc2004,

I also am having many differn blue screen problems and have been looking at the posting on Sept 25, 2005 that can be found at https://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-33571-Driver_irql_not_less_or_equal.html

I have followed those steps and copied one of my error events for you to please look at:

i don't think that anyone cares but... it was definetly a driver problem in my case. since my DSL got back online this morning, i've had no problems like that. It was a modem driver issue... in my case.

Hi Joebot,

As I mentioned from my previous post, the same problem were encountered two times before but the problem owners do not feedback the result. Your latest minidump has different symptoms. Two minidumps crashes with bugcheck code 7E at kmixer. According to pass record, crash at kmixer is caused by faulty ram. Maybe your ram is incompatible to the new motherboard.

BugCheck 1000007E, {c0000005, b88840be, ba5b7c18, ba5b7914}
Probably caused by : kmixer.sys ( kmixer+130be )

Suggestion

Hi Feldggast,

Two of your minidumps has one bit memory corruption and it is faulty ram.

Suggestion
1. Reseat the memory stick to another memory slot
2. Downclock the ram

BugCheck 100000D1, {c8a1, 2, 0, f7aafb9c}
Probably caused by : memory_corruption
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1)

interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.

Engjay,

I've processed your minidumps. The module list of all the dumps are corrupted. Maybe ram problem but I am unable to confirm it is faulty ram.
