DVD burner help?

I recently bought a compaq presario with a DVD burner and lightscribe tech. I am using roxio software to burn with also. My problem is whenever I try to copy a disc to burn it keeps telling me that it is scratched or dirty, no matter what the condition of the DVD is. I also tried to copy it as an image to my hard drive and says the same thing, how do I fix this problem? I new at the whole burning thing so any help would be greatly apprectiated.

Try purchasing another burner... or borrow one to test

what would be a good one to buy? I would like to get another one with the lightscribe.
