Arizona conspiracy theory I don't care about queer people in Africa I don't care if they're murdered I don't care that's not what my tax dollars are for. My tax dollar should not be used to solve your humanitarian crisis
Crude but somewhat understandable
nor should it be used to buy missiles to defend Ukraine from Russia not my problem I don't care.
Shouldn't it?
Logically looking at it it's some of the most efficient money ever spent. At the price of mostly old surplus what was seen as the biggest or second biggest adversary has lost more tanks than most other countries even have (over 4k confirmed, but might be as has high as 10k tanks). Its artillery munition is depleted, one of its irreplaceable AWAC planes (of which it only has a handful) lost, etc etc.
Not to mention it's future military capability is undermined as with how a lot of its equipment has performed buyers are pulling out decreasing Russia's ability to fund those programs.
Additionally Ukraine was considered an ally and like it or not the US has positioned itself as the world police over the years. On top of that the US signed the Budapest memorandum which is what l ended up landing Ukraine in this mess. (And the other main guy that signed it is the one who started it).
I'd be more worried about the money spend on for example the US littoral combat ship - ballooned to the costs of about the same as the aid donated to Ukraine and achieved... not sure. They got decommissioned almost immediately because they're that problematic!
Realistically looking at it the LCS failure probably cost even more because the reported costs of aid donated to Ukraine are skewed towards making them look rather inflated*.
* The reported costs are what is donated would have cost to replace with something new, at full price. For the Abrams tanks donated for example that likely means:
The donated tank was the Abrams M1A1 (produced somewhere in 85-92) at a cost of about $4.3 million.
The replacement and reported cost would be the M1A2 SEPv3 at about $24 million.
For something like cluster munition that wouldn't even be produced anymore and realistically would have to be decommissioned at costs higher than just shipping it to Ukraine I don't even know how the bookkeeping would work.
tldr: At the cost of a failed navy program the US can now stop worrying about Russia as a potential rival the most efficient money it's ever spent.
