A hot potato: Elon Musk is more than $15 billion poorer today, a result of Tesla's shares taking another dive following the launch of his America Party. But there's no need to set up a GoFundMe; Musk is still the world's richest person – by a considerable margin.

Tesla's shares have been suffering as a result of Musk's ongoing feud with one-time ally Donald Trump. After fulfilling his pledge to launch a new political party over the weekend, Tesla shares dropped 7% yesterday morning, losing around $21 per share.

As a result of the fall, Musk saw another $15 billion wiped off his personal fortune. However, he still tops Bloomberg's Billionaires Index with a total net worth of $346 billion. Second place Mark Zuckerberg is at $253 billion – $93 billion less than Musk.

Tesla's shares hit $436 on January 20, the day of Trump's inauguration. Today, the price is $297, marking a 31.8% decrease. The change is reflected in Musk's net worth, which is down $86.7 billion this year so far.

Musk's initial spat with Trump in June saw the President threaten to terminate Musk's governmental subsidies and contracts as a way to slash billions of dollars from the budget. This wiped $152 billion off Tesla's market cap.

The feud was reignited last week following the signing of Trump's Big Beautiful Bill, which will end the $7,500 federal EV tax credit incentive in September. Trump once again threatened to stop the billions of dollars in subsidies Musk's companies receive from the government, and even suggested that DOGE, the budget-slashing organization that Musk until recently headed, investigate the CEO's firms. Tesla's shares fell again.

Musk says his objection to the Big Beautiful bill is over the amount it will add to the US national debt, estimated to be at least $3 trillion, and not the ending of the EV incentive.

It's not just Tesla's shares that are suffering. The EV maker just reported a drop in vehicle deliveries for the second quarter in a row, and it was even worse than what most analysts were expecting.

Musk said on Sunday that the America Party may back a presidential candidate at some point, but "the focus for the next 12 months is on the House and the Senate."

"I think it's ridiculous to start a third party," Trump told reporters. On his Truth Social network, he wrote, "I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely 'off the rails,' essentially becoming a train wreck over the past five weeks."

According to recent polling by Silver Bulletin, 36.7 percent of Americans have a favorable view of Musk and 55 percent view him unfavorably. At the end of last year, just 45% of Americans held an unfavorable view of the billionaire.

We already have the MAGA party and the *** Party.

Any semblance of functional governance looks like it's long gone.

The social media chickens have come home to roost, all the parties in the world don't mean anything when the electorate votes based on feels, vibes, and auras. What does this brain damaged influencer think? Yeah let's do that!

"Elon Musk is more than $15 billion poorer today, a result of Tesla's shares taking another dive following the launch of his America Party."

Who the F cares...?!

The US desperately needs more political parties (and open primaries).

But does this get us there knowing the two current parties will do everything to stop it?

Not sure. But a multi-billionaire with a giant following has a much better shot than most to pull it off. Hopefully, the creation of the American party opens the way to several other parties.

Elon musk is a fool, but we have had a 2 party system that has been fighting against the working class for almost 60 years. Bring on the third party, maybe they'll sap enough votes to swing the next election. I'll tell you what, neither red or blue has compelled me to vote since 2008.

Let's see what you've got, Elon. People only have haters when current system has a reason not to like you. I find it hilarious that just 2 years ago that musk was the left's mehsia and the right hated him, then suddenly the right loves him and the left hates him.

To be fair, Trump was never a true Republican, the right just ralied around him to get reelected. There was absolutely no reason why Harris or Biden couldn't get reelected if they put aside race and gender politics to work on an economy that works for everyone. The Left handed the election to Trump, he's being just as dementia filled this term as Biden was and now we need another option.

Elon and Trump live rent free in Techspot's heads. So any chance to write something about either, no matter if it really is tech news or not, is a must.

Nah not Techspot's heads, it's readers'. That's how you farm engagement.

I think it's just this writer lol, he seems a little obsessed with EM. As far as I can tell, every single article he's written about Elon Musk has had a negative spin on it. And he seems to be the only writer taking Tesla/Elon Musk articles. He should update his biography because his "primary focus on PC hardware and gaming" seems have changed to politics.

This article lacks focus on what's important. The important part is that US does need a new party, but Musk is the wrong person to lead one, he is not a people person, and most Americans do not like him at all.
Political parties are self serving. They shouldn't profit so much from their power to make decisions that affect everyone. So many say they serve The People, but I just don't see any evidence to support that claim. If they did serve The People, then The People would be able to fire them when they don't produce. Too many career politicians have little progress if any to show after being in office for decades.

You think this billionaire who's led the group firing people without figuring out what they actually do is going to care about you?

Harris represented the previous administration, and whether they had anything to do with it or not the cost of everything going up was blamed on them and there was no way any representative from that administration was going to have a chance of winning. Biden is too old to be a leader and with a career in politics with so little to show he never should have been president anyway. How many promises did Biden keep?

Politicians shouldn't be allowed to promise things they don't have to the power to keep and shouldn't be allowed to lie about their ability to affect change. And voters shouldn't be so gullible to think a politician who's been rich their whole lives, who's done nothing while not in power to help those who weren't born rich, cares about anyone else.

Remember all the stuff politicians care about while they campaign for election and how little to do about those things when they don't win? What did Trump or Hillary do for The People after they lost their elections. Suddenly when they don't have any power to gain they couldn't care less about all the things that couldn't have been any more important to them days before they lost.

What has Elon done recently that's positive? What positivity is Elon spreading? There isn't anything he done that's been positive so there isn't anything positive to say about him.

Inflation was the deathknell of the Biden/Harris presidency. There was never going to be a second term after the blasphemy that was committed against our one true God: Consumerism.

Not voting is a vote.

I'm sure fElon has plenty of Ketamine. Personally, I've never seen a reason to like him or his products.

His niece says he cannot even tie his shoes.

I didn't say he's only covering negative news lol, I said he's putting a negative spin on all news. If you want to read lots of positive news about Elon, then you have teslarati.com but I'm a TechSpot reader. But clearly you're unaware of anything good about him, so maybe you should take a look at another side.

He's like Trump, who also lost when entering office.

Interestingly enough, rivals experienced the opposite, e.g., their net worths went up significantly after they entered politics.

Given that, one's better off in the private sector.
